One question, and maybe someone should post it in a new thread: how come other ADDers seem to cope so well and others don't? Is it meds? Is that the real difference? Is it support from others like spouses and employers? Is their ADD less pronounced? Do they just have better coping skills?

One question, and maybe someone should post it in a new thread: how come other ADDers seem to cope so well and others don't? I am facinated by the question, but I don't have any clue what the answers are. Is it meds? Is that the real difference? Meds make it easier be "normal." But they aren't a make or break issue. Some structure their lives in a way that works with ADHD. Is it support from others like spouses and employers?ANYONE does better with support from spouses and employers. Is their ADD less pronounced? The group of symptoms are called ADHD. People can have some symptoms, or all of them. (ouch) Some symptoms combine with personalities in ways that are more damaging than others. Do they just have better coping skills? Everyone probably has a different answer.
I used to drive myself into the ground trying to "overcome" my ADHD. I had coping skills up to my eyeballs. I was pretty successful - except I was chronically and severely depressed. It was a LOT of work, and I burned out.
A couple of years ago, I got fed up with living like that, and said "my way or the highway." That was much better for my self esteem, and the depression improved quite a bit.
Recently I have started to learn balance and compromise. Now I do what feels right, and I only use coping mechanisms that feel comfortable to me. I am a bit more of a flake sometimes, but my depression is now dysthymia. (very mild depression)
But that is just my ADHD and my personality -- what about yall?
