I also have the fan so does my daughter. I used to have to put the radio on for her when she was a baby and apparently my mum had to do it for me too.
I also tap my foot and rock to put myself to sleep, so does my daughter.
Luckily my hubby doesnt mind, one he always overheats in bed so the fan is good and secondly he like the rocking as we have a waterbed so he gets a free rock to sleep
My hubby, who I believe is ADD but is not treated for it, loves to watch TV all the time. I think it has something to do with the white noise. He will fall asleep watching TV and I politely turn it off for him, then he wakes up and says, "Hey, I was watching that." So I turn it back on and he falls back asleep.
I have ADD, but have never felt the need for white noise, in fact, fan noise drives me nutty, a little too much noise, I think for me.
TV here. I didn't realize we folks needed white noise until I saw this thread. Yes, I've always needed light, or noise, or something. Recently I was reading in a magazine that sleeping with the TV is not conducive to sound sleep. Still, I need the TV on to fall asleep. What also helps me is a massage pad. That gets me sleepy.I think that years ago I needed a fan to sleep but now I use the t.v. I didn't realize that to be an ADHD thing but it's good to know. Why do you think that it is? I have even used talk radio as a good way for me to sleep. I think a fan wouldn't do me any justice now. When I do watch t.v. to fall asleep, I kind of like a calm show, not anything with any action in it. I thought it was because that at night I start getting thoughts and worries and my past starts haunting me. You know, people, the things that they said, the things I did, whatever...
It is surely good to know that I'm not alone.
I love haveing my sheets tucked in tight. Best was when grandmom did it with starched sheets. If I have that I don't rock so much.
Got to have the white noise. I also like my room to be icy cold so I can burrow under the covers. I'm beginning to think that I like the room cold as a result of my need for the fan. Im going to make my hubby read this thread! He hates it, i have absoutely got to sleep with a fan on, even as cold as it has been here, the constant sound is what i need. Even when we visit his folks, they know, and have a fan for me in the guest bedroom, but hubby thougth i was a "weirdo!", now he will see im not alone!!!

CG you are right! We had a discussion on this - must be back last July I think. Very good and long one for a while.
Sleeping in silence can be tough for many with ADHD. I myself discovered by accident that white noise let me sleep much better as a child. I would steal my father's old TV at night and play a dead channel all night. The static would lull me to sleep and though I had no idea that what I had was ADHD I instinctively knew somehow that it would help. When my father (thinking this was defiance) would inevitably take back the TV I would find radios, CB radios and other white noise sources to help sleep.
I have looked at a white noise radio clock (saw it at Canada's bargain shop - a kind of dollar store) and may get one sometime. They have dropped in price and though most times I sleep soundly now that I have good meds and therapy there are still days where sleep is hard to get. White noise certainly saved my sleep and my sanity many times then. I highly recommend it when there is trouble getting to sleep.
Hubby sleeps with no noise. I have had to ajust to this and it has made sleeping harder. I was a hard sleeper and since haveing 2 kids now a soft sleeper stinks!
Chamomile and Lavendar help my sleep on bottom of the feet. Helps relax my brain.
I hate my covers tucked in, too. I also rock myself to sleep sometimes.
Gotta have a fan! When we go on vacation, I bring my own. Doesn't matter how nice the hotel is, I'm miserable if I don't have a Fan.I can make due if they have a air unit that has a fan switch that is loud , however most nice hotels value silence! HELL! I have a trip I have to go on soon with my new boss, I'm dreading it- Maybe I'll flip the bill for my own hotel room.
The worst nights are when the electricity goes out because of a storm or something, Zing--I'm wide awake! Also, CAN NOT sleep with the sheets tucked in, drives me crazy
. I have a mild form of Restless legs, so I generally have to rock myself to sleep, my husban comes to bed several hour after me so that I can fall asleep first.
You know I was wondering..
I have to sleep with a fan, mostly because of the sound, but also the wind as it plays across my toes. For some reason having those distractions allow me to sleep very easily. I concentrate on the sensation, how it sounds or how it feels, and bamo I find a place where I can unwind my mind and sleep.
But if it's quiet, forget it, finding sleep in a quiet room is near impossible to me, and when I do, I will not sleep well and wake as if I hadn 't slept.
If I am watching a tv, same thing, I have a hard time keeping my peepers open, but shut off that tv and make the room dark and quiet, and I am wide awake.
Some of my worst nights, used to be trying to sleep in my grandmothers house as a child on a sleepover. I loved them dearly, its was a magical place, but it was the quietest place in the world at night, and sleeping was misery for me.
I wonder if its ADHD thing, or maybe jut a odd fluke of my personality..
HMMM
I am the biggest Fan of Fans. I cannot sleep without the wind and noise of a fan.
I am a Libra, the air sign.
MUST........HAVE...........FAAAAAAAAN!!!!!
Actually, my husband does NOT have ADHD/ADD and he needs a fan too. Too bad snoring doesn't put me to sleep.
Dabonbon38773.4840046296I've used the air filter machines and it's tough when I visit relatives. I've seen the battery operated for cigarette smoke--maybe that's what I need for those trips.I don't need any noise to sleep but hubby does. He can does off to anything, dd too has to have the tv on or radio.
I like having the window open and the fresh air blowing on me. even the cold air. I can't sleep if i feel stuffy, sometimes I feel so constricted I get up and sleep on the couch. However i like the sheets tucked in tight around me. very wierd
I wish white noise would work for me. I can't even stand the clock ticking. Noises in my head are more than enough for me.
I put my head between two pillows and stick my nose out so I can breathe. It has to be complete darkness and silence. :(
Me too! & the fan. I wish I didn't have to hear the alarm clock every morning - those really soft earplugs are GREAT!
I wish I could sleep with earplugs. I must wear a dental protective thing because of my bruxism I can't even do that. I wish I could sleep flying without touching anything in silence :)
