what if no medication works for you?? | ADHD Information

i was wondering what would you all do if you have tried over 20 different medications and changing dosage after dosage to find out that no medication works for you.  i have heard that medication might not work for everyone about 80% of the people who has ADD will benefit but the unlucky 20% will not benefit from it at all.

i really don't want to rely on medication too much but i've been like this for almost 23 years of my life w/o meds!! and it's just awful!! my sister has taken adderal rx and she got lucky ..it work real good for her when it comes to focus..me in the other hand...i've already try strattera for like 4 months..it sucked...i was hoping adderal rx would be good since it's a stimulant...nope!! it's such a disappointing feeling that even a stimulant doesn't work...i'm not trying to be all negative and all but what happens if no medication works for me?? will i be stuck like this forever!!?  i mean..what if i'm one of those people that falls in those 20% where it won't benefit them...

i mean..am i suppose to get tutor the rest of my life and how am i suppose to handle my extreme boredom at work!! and i'm talkin bout VERY EXTREME BOREDOM it don't matter if i work 20 hrs a week or 60 hrs a week...i can't do it w/o meds..i know..trust me...i've been thru over 15 jobs and counting..it don't matter if i like that job, i'll still quit because of my boredomness...i need to find something that would help me...

i was wondering what ALL of YOU would do if NO MEDICATION works for you??  what if u tried those herbal supplement only to find out that don't work either...WHAT ARE YOUR OPTIONS??

Medication worked for me for a while, and then it didn't.  I am trying exercises from the book Stopping ADHD by O'Dell.   They really seem to be helping me.  This is supposed to be a permanent solution. So far, it has helped me with memory, concentration, finishing tasks and organizing my work area.  My household organization is not good still, but I am working on it.  I also notice things around me more, like the mess is starting to bother me when before I just didn't even notice it.

The book is very cheap on amazon in the used book section.  I saw some there for .00 or so.

I bought mine for .00 and think it was very much worth it.  Even if it helps only a little.  There are no other costs, unless you want to buy their video, but I just used the book, it is very clear.

Good luck to you.

someone told if meds don't work maybe it's not add or adhd at all. My product I use for depession has greffonia and St johns wortplos folic acid and b12. Helps greatly.People say you are easier to talk with when on it. It requires 3 times daily. Mine comes from Melaleuca.com

I hear, feel and know your desparation with the med issues. You may benefit from my experience of what has worked and only recently - it's just an avenue to look at - it might not be the right fit for you but so far so good and there is actually a quantitative blood test that could help you determine this. I am really tired of the just try this and see what happens.....attitude of most Phsych professionals... I been on every SSRI, SNRI, anti-psychotic - which landed me in the hospital with a psychotic break.. and Ritalin... The only thingHere's the abbreviated  version as I am sure you know the life stories can get long...... but here is what realizationsI have come to after about 20 years looking for an answer.....  All this time the people I love most have paid the highest price for loving and caring for me.  I just can't put them through it anymore.....I am not a doctor of course, this solution has worked for me so far but you'll have to your situation for yourself..... The solutions I found if taken inapprpopriately could actually harm you so get the test done first.  I would look at maybe a pain managment person to help you interpret the results of this test..........I know that sounds weird, but he is the only guy who has put this all together for me..... I know of a good one in Bowie, MD who is very interested in this if you would like his name.

Basically, here goes

At 38, I am a stay at home mom with alot of health problems (that I think now being diagnosed with ADHD and getting the proper treatment will help even my physical symptoms).  I have a beautiful and very sweet 3 yearold daughter and a wonderfullly supportive husband.  Though I know it has been trying for him.
