Advice would be AWESOME | ADHD Information

ByeByeBeautiful......you also sound just like I was (still am) and like my 7 1/2 year old adhd daughter.  I have never been "officially diagnosed" but as my hubby said "The apple didn't fall far from the tree" and I have taken the test on the link that gttingagrip put up....and wouldn't you know.  It says I need to seek help ASAP

I have learnt to live with it now, since I am 34 but sometimes think being able to sit and concentrate for more than 30 seconds would be great.

Good luck with everything and keep us all posted.  Leanne

ByeByeBeautiful,  To help you get some idea whether you should talk to a doctor there is a great wesite with a self test.  I'll place a link below.  Now this is not to be considered a diagnosis but it gives you information to go on when seeing a physician if it comes out positive.  since you mentioned your Dad is alot like you you might want to encourage him to take it too.  -Gettingagrip-

Hi Jessica!! You sound like you definitely could have ADHD; and as you know, only a MD can really address the possible Dx with you.

LOL You sound a lot like me! I have always talked 900 miles per hr and a lot!!! I put things down and forget where I put them (often) I almost can't make myself do things I find boring, or that require a lot of focus... I'll bet there are some things you are really Super good at. Whatever you do, do not get bored with life and start hanging around with "friends" that are not good influences.  Sometimes it can be hard to be 15 and have ADHD type tendencies...life can seem boring, and it is easy to look for alternative ways to add a little spice...if you ever feel so inclined, please choose something that will be a positive thing in your life rather than a negative....God bless!
In my opinion I think you may be dislexic, sp?.  I also think you may have a problem with depression.  You need to immediately see a therapist about your problems and have him prescribe the correct medication for you.
I agree w/ shopgirl. Stuttering is not a good combination with stimulant medication. I knew someone who had the same syptoms, and her studdering got to the point where it took her 5 minutes to finish a short sentence. Even I went throgh a period when I was very young where I was mis diagnosed, mis dosed... This was by a cheap doctor, who mis diagnosed SEVERAL of his patients. So I also commend your research on this as well. I pay to see the best doctor in town, who helped me through a LD program, and he uses techniques to avoid heavy medication as well. I've seen many doctors, so make sure you give your doctor full details as best as you can.

Hey! My names Jessica and I am 15.

Heres the deal.

Last year during my freshman year I met my good friend Tyler. Tyler has ADHD. One day I began to talk with him about his ADHD.  I couldnt help but notice all of the simliarities between his behavior and my own. I spoke to my dad about my concerns and he said it was just normal 15 year old stress. My dad is no expert, so I decided to  come here for some real help.

Reasons I think I may have ADHD:

When I was a child I was ALL OVER the place. I  was into EVERYTHING. Bouncing off couches, climbing furniture, eating and drinking EVERYTHING. And I don't mean as a toddler. I mean up to almost 4 years old.

My dad was also like me. He was always very busy as a child and got into everything.

In elementary school I was an average student. Kindergarten through 4th grade especially.

When school became more rigorous, it became more difficult for me to do homework, at home in particular. Even today I have to sit down and organize exactly what Im going to do before I get started.

I have trouble concentrating when Im talking. Even now as I am typing its hard for me to put my thoughts into words. I blank out  for periods at a time. Or I stutter.

I have a hard time doing simple thing like setting the table. My mom has to come back two or three times and tell me what to do. For instance. I will be in my room doing homework and my mom will ask me to help her with something. Before I help her with whatever it is I will set down my glass of water. When Im finished I go back to my room and forget all about the water. Or I will need it and end of running around the house  looking for it. This happens often with lots of things.

In school when I have to take timed essay tests, I erase SO much and start over so many times because I cant think straight.

I talk ALOT and I talk FAST. Sometimes I take a step back and realize just how much Im talking. Its unbelievable.

I have very little patience too.I get bored very easily. When walking home from school I have to have a book or a CD player to keep from getting angry. Or at a restaraunt I find myself getting mad when the food takes to long.

Well thats it. I could be overeacting and it could be nothing but I would feel alot better if I had some expert advice.

Thanks!

-Jessica

No point telling you to relax huh! lol.  You sound very much like myself as a young person - I am only started to GET IT now and I am in my thirties so dont be too hard on yourself.

You sound delightful and interesting and a very good communicater - Good for you.

You do sould like you suffer with symptoms of adhd and that means that you are incredibly creative, lateral thinker, full of energy and enthusiasm and much more smarter than the average bear.

To the best of my knowledge none of us here are professionals however we all have a lot of life experience to share.  What you need to do is go to your doctor or maybe even 2 different ones and get a diagnosis.  Research the web for symptoms and do a self anaylsis.

Ask any questions here and i am sure any of us will be happy to walk with you through this.  But congratulations on taking control of your problems and your steering your life responsibly.

Thank you! I really appreciate the advice!
