Anyone have experience with Toframil? | ADHD Information

My daughter, now 26, took it when she was about 10 or 11.  She was diagnosed with ADD inattentive type, depression and anxiety.  They added this on top of her Ritalin.  I wasn't impressed and took her off of it.  I didn't think it did much of anything but since I now know that she is bipolar in addition to the ADD, I have to wonder how much this med had to do with the combativeness I was dealing with.  It is an antidepressant so you have to watch for signs of suicidal thinking and rages, which could be an indication of the existance of bipolar.  I would monitor him very closely.  A daily mood and behavior chart might help you see any changes that might occur, both good and bad.

Tofrinil is an antidepressant; an older one. I took it once. As far as I know it's for depression and is also used off label for bedwetting. I took it for a while and it worked for about eight mnths, but then I had a psychotic side effect and had to quit cold turkey and that was hard. I also have bipolar. While it lifted my depression (too well...lol) it did nothing for either my anxiety disorder or my inattention. For an antidepressant, I'd rather go with a newer one. Less side effects and they work better, as long as there is no co-morbid mood disorder. (I've been on at least seven antidepressants in my life and to me the newer ones are more effective, but everyone is different).OlderMom38771.2179398148We had a meeting yesterday with a child psychiatrist and after talking with my husband and I and my son he has decided to try him on a drug called Toframil (generic name Imipram).  My son has ADHD inattentive type along with anxiety issues and the Doctor said that this drug is good for both issues.  He is starting him off on a low dose (10 mg. a day).  He said that the drug is similar to Straterra but has been around for a lot longer.  It is used in much higher doses to treat depression but has been successful in smaller doses for anxiety and add issues.  Just curious to see if anyone else has had any experience with it and how it has worked for them.  Thanks!
