add meds ....depression | ADHD Information

Jada, I have the same problem with Ritalin, depression, anxiety, and sleep problems. It has been a constant ordeal.  Here are some solutions I have found to date. (Actually, I have Ambien for sleep, but am concerned about using sleep aids in general. I am also concerned about using any drugs at all because of a fear of liver damage.)

Valerian Root - liquid. Talk about knocking anxiety out. Take a few drops of that in water and you'll be sitting there ready to take a nap. I just barely discovered this one. My problem is that if it wears off, I will wake up.

Omega 3 Fish Oils - has been great for my depression. I take 3,000 mg/day. I haven't gone into the "dark hole" in probably 6 mo. I used to be on Paxil, etc. and I'm impressed.

Liquid B Complex - this has reduced my anxiety significantly.  I used to take Xanax and haven't needed it in a long time.  I buy Liquid Health: Energy & Stress  Liquid Health: Energy & Stress

Wish I could find something that will naturally help my ADHD, but it is so extreme that Ritalin is the only thing that seems to really address the problem. I am going to purchase a book called "The Feingold Diet" - supposed to be diet changes that are supposed to make significant changes.  I'm also looking into going to the Amen Clinic. Looks like it costs a small forturne and that they don't bill your insurance company, so it's up to me to do it myself. So, that may not happen...at least for awhile. I like their website and some of the information that they have.

Amen Clinic

So far, I have only been able to find really CRAPPY doctors in the So. CA area. She gave me a ton of Straterra to try, but I really want to avoid a daily drug if I possibly can. The doctor I have now is worthless. She doesn't listen and just wants to medicate up the WAZOO, even when I told her about my concerns of medications. She doesn't know Jack about ADHD, just fakes it and it's so annoying. The Amen Clinic looks like are open to both approaches to dealing with ADHD. I would just love to find the dream dr. that actually gives a da$m and doesn't pull the "I am superior" attitude. Ugh.

Hello, this is Jada I just recently starting posting and love it.This one is gonna be short, just a question.I am on ritalin and it has caused some depression like in the evenings when all the meds wear off and I feel normal(iguess) again,I get pretty nervous and just not in a pleasant mood.Everything my husband does just drives me crazy. He can call the dog and I start boiling sometimes....I feel so bad,I've started just being a mute at night. Is there any depression med that works well with ritalin? Is there any that I should not mix with it?  Also one more thing....my Dr recently put me on a medicine to help me fall asleep faster called sonata it's a short acting sleep aid/sedative and it is amazing I fall asleep in like 5 min and the next morning I have no affect at all from it but the thing is I took it last night but I did'nt go right to sleep like usual and I was so calm and relaxed I was'nt listening to every sound my husband made in fact someone could slapped me and I don't think I would have said anything. My question is what if I took half of the pill a few hours before bed everynight and the other half at bedtime instead of all at bedtime....I'm afraid if I start using it as a nerve pill I might get addicted or something but it helps so much with my nerves. What do ya'll think?Anyone heard of it?If anyone outhere has trouble going or staying asleep this drug is a miracle.Sorry about the rambling,it was supposed to be one quick question.   Looking forward to your replys...........................Goodnight,Jada

It is very tempting to misuse medication when they give us an effect that helps us get by.  But you do need to ask yourself - is this what you want for yourself.

Addiction is a very big possibility for any mind alterating drug - that is onlymy opinion and I believe it regardless of what the doctors say.

For addictive personalities, if we like something - we love it and that is all there is to it.

I suggest using the drug as prescribed or otherwise consult your doctor.

I am glad that you are sleeping better, but perhaps if you try to do some aerobic activity during the day (if you are not already doing that) that may help.  I did some major gardening the other day and I was straight out to it that night and I normally have sleeping problems.

And at the same time I get a better bod too.
