I'm honestly not sure there's much difference between Ritalin LA and Metadate CD. Both are methylphenidate and both are long-acting (supposed to last 8 hours, but some kids metabolize it faster). Where did you get the information that Metadate lasted longer? Concerta is the only methylphenidate product that lasts longer (10-plus hours).
Provigil is a medication used to treat narcolepsy. The FDA just approved it for use in treating ADHD.
Try Adderall xr. Last about 12 hours for some kids. It lasts 11 hours for my son. So its out of his system by 6 or 7 at night. Good luck with the med change. Sorry, haven't heard of Provigil.
My son 5 yrs old. Adhd . Currently on Ritalin La 20mg once a day, It is working a little bit. about 4 hours and if I give him another dosage then he won't sleep well.
Anyways, today I talked to the doctor and I asked him about Metadate Cd. because I saw it works for a lot of kids longer time. He said ..sure...we can try it and see. So on saturday we are going to try it. I think he is going to be on 20mg and also he said that try it 2 times a day if it wears off too quick and see if how he sleeps.
Plan B, if this does not work he said to go back to Ritalin La with a dose of Regular short acting Ritalin in the evenings, he mentioned that if Ritalin La only works for about 4 hours then short acting will work only for a couple of hours. SO that might not be the right medicine for him.
He mention Provigil.... Has anyone heard of it?
Any suggestions or experiences will be really appreciated.

My son can not swallow thats the reason the doctor has not prescribed Concerta, but he has mentioned as an option too.
I haven't seen that site. Do you have a link to it? Thanks.My memory on Metadate CD is that the delivery system is a little different than Ritalin LA .... I think Ritalin LA releases 50% immediately and 50% after about 4 hours; and Metadate CD is 30% immediate, 70% later.

I had my 5 year old on metadate CD for a month and it lasted 8 hours for her. We switched her to Foclin XR because it is supposed to kick in faster and last longer. So far it has been great. It last about 10 hours and seems to kick in really fast.
