Jman, ask the temp agency for a different position, but ask them asap, in case the company you're temping for does fire you for whatever reason.  Temp agencies will work with you.  

It's tough to be fired.  I've been fired, not because I was a bad worker, nor due to  lack of knowledge, but because I would miss important dates.  Sometimes numbers look similar to my brain, and I confuse months, and years, and words, and letters.  I'm not dyslexic.  Rather, there is an actual confusion and fog in my mind.  When I got fired, I cried a lot.  I felt unwanted, hopeless, a failure, that there would be no future for me.  

It's very difficult bearing the pain of being fired for some misfiring of our brains, unless you have someone to share the problems with, like a husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend or someone you can open up with and tell these things to.

I moved to a new city after graduatiion for my first job.  Lost it 4 months later because of my add.  It was an auditing job which is the least suited job for me.  It was one of the lowest parts of my life.  2 months later I got a new job that I am waiting for my background check to go through.  Untill them I am doing admin work.  I got it thorough a staffing firm.  Anyways I seemed to be doing alright on most of the stuff and then I got this project where u need to audit hundreds of pages of information to look for signs that people are using govt. money wrong for purchaes.  Well I screwed up on it 2 times in a row and the lady that gave it to me wants to get me fired.  She went to all my bosses and everything.  Today I actully thought I was getting fired when my lead boss was talking to me.  I didn't though.  She said she talked to other people I did stuff for and they said I did fine.  I'm still scared sh*tless though.  I can't handle loosing a job again.  especially this far from home.  It was hell loosing it the first time.

I have learned that I just cant do repetitive work that involves analyzing and looking for stuff over long periods of time.  Stuff that I have the opportunity to figure out is what I can do reasonably well.

If the new job is something you want to do and really believe that you will do well, then hang in there and do your best. I hope a background check doesn't take long, so you can get out of what you are doing soon.

In the meantime, I'm rooting for you!

 

If you are doing a "temp" job, why not ask the staffing company if they can move you to another job.  If that type of work is really not your thing, then why set yourself up, especially when you have another job coming through soon.

If I were you, I'd just pay the bills and put my focus on the career move - the job that is doing your background check.

 

 

Well the thing is if u find something u might like how do u get hired?  I mean I had an acct. degree with some experience and it was still hard as hell to get a job even with my experience.  I'm currently trying to be an electrician which i think is my calling but what if I don't get on.  Its not like u can just be like "i want that job" and get it.  Good jobs are hard to get.

Wow, electrician! That sounds like an interesting job change. It would probably be good for you-- projects would be fairly short-lived, you'd get to go to new locations often, and you may have the opportunity to be creative with lighting choices.

My only advice is that you network. Networking works in all job situations. There is no trick to it other than meeting someone who is in your field and telling them what you want and that you need their help.

Don't electricians go through an apprenticeship for a few years before becoming a regular electrician?  Is it hard to get the initial apprenticeship?

Yes. It can be hard.  But they look for certain things and if u have them it can be easy.  A lot of people that apply have no business applying.  During the apprenticeship you work the same and just attend classes to.  Thats the only difference.  You get paid. That completely sucks, jman. It's awful to be fearful of losing your job.

Since you know that what you are doing is not well suited to you, instead of being paralyzed by fear, try to explore what you think may be a better option for you.

It's easier said than done, but keep the faith!!! Something better will come along.

When I was diagnosed ADHD the doc also did personality testing to see type of job I would be best suited to, it was quite an insight and many jobs that I had never even considered were on the list.

Just thought this might be food for thought and get you into a job that you enjoy and wont have to worry about losing.
