went from adderall xr 5mg to 10mg | ADHD Information

Our experience with Adderal was not good either.
The sleeplessness was just the FIRST of the side effects.  He ended up with them all and they DO NOT stop after a while like the Dr. said.  We expected the side effects to wear off but they only got worse.
First, he couldn't sleep and had no appetite until about 8pm---when he wanted to feast well into the night.  Then he began to get moody and emotional over everything.  In the end he began having daily headaches where he would actually vomit.  That was the end.  It was not worth it at all.  He was miserable and we were scared.  That was when he was 7-8 yrs.  He is now 9 and we don't medicate.  He has learned to compensate for his inattentiveness and works very hard to do well in school.  His schoolwork is on the low end for his grade level but his teacher says he tries very hard and we are pleased.  Medications are fine for some families but they were not for ours.  We do daily omega 3 and keep him away from the red & yellow dyes and has many food additives as we can.  We are very pleased with his progress this year.
my son does struggle with sleep sometimes too.  We have tried other meds and the adderall xr is about all that helps a little and my son is high dosed on it too.  The best thing I can suggest besides call the dr which you have done and should always be first is that it may be a temporary side effect to the change.  That does happen but maybe they can find something where the inital side effects are not so hard on her.My son didn't do well on adderall, but it wasn't that way.  He was cranky, mean, depressed, and other great stuff.  but not that sleepless.

My dr warned me about the sleeplessness that adderall can cause and I was worried because ds has always had trouble with it anyway... but when combined with the other herbs and vitamins, he has NO trouble sleeping.  In fact, I started him on these things about a week before the adderall and even he commented on how he is sleeping better than ever. 

My daughter just seen her psycogists today and he commented that she needed to be raised from 5mg to 10mg she see's her dr on Thursday and she has only been on the meds for a little over a week.  So far she has no sleeping problems a little problem with her appetite but I to noticed that she wants to eat the second we go to bed and her angry outbursts are not as freqent or last as long.  She seems to be doing a bit better in school and her head and stomach aches subsided.  He also stated that we learn about Biopolar since most of my searches have been about ADHD and there is a good chance that she may have that since her aunt is taking meds for Biopolar as well as many other mental disorders.  The one thing we have noticed is she has always talked constinaly and I never thought she could talk more then she has but boy I was wrong she can talk for over 4 hours without stopping.

my daughters dr. just switched her from adderall xr 5 to 10mg and yesterday was her first dose of that and omg she did not sleep at all last night and I am not exaggerating she went to school this morning and went to bed right off the bus and is still sleeping at 11:41 I knew about the sleeplessness but had no idea that it was this bad I am definately not giving her that ever again I did call the dr. but she hasnt called back yet I just dont know what to do the 5mg wasnt working any longer. I want to home school her but I'm so tired of all the remarks I'm getting about it from every one I mean from my husband all the way up to the dr. I just feel like no one understand why I want to home school my kids. ok thanks for listening and has this ever happened to anyone.
