Hi | ADHD Information

Hi, I'm new. I'm 39 and diagnosed with ADHD for about 4 years. My whole life has been hell. I am a posterchild for ADHD.

I started taking Ritalin and could not believe the difference. Tried Dexedrine too. I can't seem to find a decent dr. in So. CA. Where are those dream doctors that you read about in the books? The ones that not only have a warmth about them, but have some knowledge? Ugh...it's been a long journey.

I'm glad to find this website and some comeraderie for this dreaded condition that seems to put me at odds with the world so many times. I feel like I'm barely employable.

In general, I am not interested in meds anymore. Have been on several for depression and anxiety.  I have healed my long-term depression and anxiety with supplements (amazing!), but nothing seems to even touch my ADHD symptoms like meds. But, I'm still determined to try. Looking into the Feingold Diet. Anyone else found anything that works besides meds?

Nice to me you all. See you on the boards.

bb,

Welcome to the board. I'm fairly new myself, but there's a good bunch of very helpful people here.

Have you tried a regular excercise routine? I think its the one thing that is keeping me sane at the moment.

Welcome.

I agree about the exercise. It helps me too.

Love to know what those suppliments were that healed your depression .

And welcome - yes we are a bunch of happy troopers all battling together.  But on the other hand we have also discussed taking over the world a couple of times - lol

Hey bluebird .. nice to see you :)Hi, and thanks for the welcome.

I just started exercising again yesterday. Went for a long walk and then put in an exercise DVD this morning.  Going to follow that one for 2 weeks, and then go to the library and go for another 2 weeks etc. to try to alleviate boredom.

Supplements I have used to help depression Rae:
Omega 3 Fish Oil capsules - 3000mg/day.
Liquid B Complex Liquid Health:Energy & Stress  for anxiety.

Those are the two staples I take. Have been experimenting with 5-HTP and a couple of others as well, but I always keep the Omega 3 coming. It's the wonder supplement for me.

hello bluebird!

I am curious...how much EPA and DHA are in the fish oil capsules that you are taking?

Thanks.

I'm still learning about this stuff...let's see...it says:

"Eicosapentaenoic acid 18% equal to 180 mg, Docosahexaenoic acid 12% equal to 120 mg"

I guess that must be EPA and DHA. Is that amount very good? I didn't really know about that part of it. Here's the website for the product.

I am not too knowledgeable on the effects of each of these.  However, here is a website that I have found has some good information regarding this and other supplements.

Thanks. A lot of reading, but looks like good information. But then again...how would I know?
