focus good, still slightly impulsive | ADHD Information

My take on it is that all problems are not solved by meds. I think the sustained focus is a great hurdle. For the impulsiveness perhaps you could try a points system at home  and a non-verbal clue from the teacher at school (like crossing her fingers when he calls out). You're probably on the right track now. We found that adderall gave us better focus, and at a higher dose too much anxiety in school (nail-biting, tearing up) but lowered it and the anxiety is gone but there's a but of impulsivity. His teacher said that's a trade-off she can live with. Hope yours can too. Congrats. The med. won't solve everything.  I always focused on the fact that things were much improved, and he was doing better at school and home.  If its occasional impulsivity I wouldn't worry too much.  The impatience may be just part of his personality, and something he'll learn to cope with as he gets older.  Good Luck.  No Hw problems, wow thats huge.  Thats great news.

Hi everyone,

We have switched meds from focalin to adderal and What a change...my ds is actually able to focus well  and completing most all of his work with good grades. He is even doing HW without much of a fuss...one night he had quite a bit  because he was making up work due to a sick day...Anyway we still see some of the impulsivity...such as occasional calling out and some impatience...am I expecting too much from the med?
