From Ritalin La to Concerta cd | ADHD Information

A big difference, even though is the same dose the way is release in the system really makes a difference. On Ritalin La the behavior was up and down for about 5 hours and then a big rebound .  On the Metadate is very steady good behavior pretty much for about 6 hours.  I think this is the one for him.  We are still going to need a short acting probably Ritalin for the evenings.

 My son is 5 yrs old, most of his issues are impulsiveness and hyperactivite.

My son who is 7 just started Ritalin LA 20mg in the am around 7:00am, he starts school @ 8:00. His teacher stated that in the afternoon is where he would be falling behind. He also gets a 5mg of regular Ritalin around 2:30. By 6:00 or so he is out of control. I can't even talk to him without him yelling screaming, and throwing awful tantrums. Over nothing. Like yesterday his brother(3) took a fruit snack and it was holly hell broke out. He has been on the Ritalin LA for 3 weeks. How long should I wait until I ask to try something else

any other suggestions are welcome

My ds takes Ritalin LA in the early a.m., then again ~6.5 hrs later.  the Ritalin LA has a more gradual decline than the short acting Ritalin which drops off like a cliff. I would not wait but keep in contact with your doctor.  One week should be long enough to see a pattern of behavior.

You  should have your dr give you a coupon for adderall Xr, same 50/50 delivery system as you see with metadate , but typically the medication will last the entire day , most publications list it as being a 10-12 hour drug.  It is though more potent than a ritalyn or methylphenidate med, so you only need to take about 1/2 of the strength.  good lucklWhat is Ritalin LA? My 4 and 1/2 year old son is on the Medadate. WE have to give it to him 3 times a day. He is on 10 mg in themroning 12.5 at lunch and 12.5 at 3:30. Our nights are awful. My doctor suggested Adderoll butI was to afraid of him not sleeping. He doesnot as it is.He takes Clondine to get to bed! I am curious about the Ritalin LA.. Thanks!

Ritalin La.. is long acting Ritalin.   It supposed to last 6-8 hrs.

 We had better results with the Metadate CD.   it lasts about 6 hrs but the way is deliver in his system seems to work better than the Ritalin La..  More consistent thru the 6 hours.   Both medicines are made of the same thing, just different delivery.

yes my son is hyper and impulsive. His teacher just stated that he has fallen behind the past 2 weeks with his work in school, that concerns me for up to this point he has been good at his school work, but the behaviorial is the issue, What is Metadate? What dose is your son on? 

Metadate is made of the same as Ritalin/Concerta/Focalin except the delivery of the medicine thru the 8 hrs is different.   More even...no picks..  like we had with the Ritalin La.  

My son is 5 and he is on 20mg.  it only lasts him @ 6hrs, he metabolizes very fast, so sometimes we give it to him 2 times a day.  It does not affect his sleep or his appetite.
