Terrified:Good chance of expeltion | ADHD Information

I am a teacher in public schools AND a mom of an ADHD child.  I can not believe that  such a contract would be written up and NOT include what the school/teachers are going to do to help your child.  You need to check with your special ed teachers/classroom teachers about interventions that can take place so that your child will be sucessful. Good luck!

Hi Ipalko, I just got back from my meeting with the Principal, Vice Principal and Sped. Dir. I got everyone at the meeting to agree with me about the way the contract is worded. I won't sign anything that has the word expultion in it. I want him to have a fresh start this year without that holding over his head. Now the tough part is to convince the Superintendant to go along with us, as he's the one that wrote it. I lied a little in the meeting. I told everyone that I have been in contact with an attorney and lot's of other agencies and they told me I shouldn't sign it. That wasn't true but it seemed to carry some weight. I asked the Sped. Dir. to be at the meeting with the Superintendant and asked that he do most of the talking as the Superintendant and I don't get along at all. He said he would be there and would soften him up for me. That was hopeful but we're not out of the dark yet. I wrote a letter requesting application for a 504 plan and classroom observation so we can come up with a good plan. This observation is suppose to happen the first week of school. Thanks for your advice and support!

I have a 13 yr. old that was just diagnosed with ADHD possibly ODD. He was suspended last Feb. The Superintendant wants him to sign a Behavior Contract that would give the school the right to go to the School Committee and ask for his expultion if he brakes it. It reads:

1. Use language of appropriately respectful tone and content at all times when on school premises, at school sponsored activities or on school buses;

2. Promptly follow the directions and instructions given to me by school personnel;

3. Always respond in a courteous, respectful manner when addressed, questioned or spoken to by staff members;

4. Abstain from running in the building, fooling around, horseplay, and careless acts that result in disciplinary referrals;

5. Avoid all office referrals that lead to a suspension from school;

I understand that if I am not able to follow the tems of the agreement for the remainder of the school year, any suspension from school for a violation of the above conditions will result in my referral to the school committee for consideration of my expulsion from school.

Keep in mind this is a school that wants to get rid of him and their isn't any plan in place to date to help him. They are also refusing to tutor him or give any other option to educate him. I have an informal meeting with the principal and sped. director tonight to talk about the results of the testing that was done.

Please advise!
