Provigel (generic name modafinil) is approved for adults with nacolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work sleep disorder. Provigel is not yet approved to treat Adhd but may have less side effects than other common stimulants.  I think it will be marketed as Sparlon.

The FDA will meet in March to consider approving it. In October it was deemed approvable pending label problems. The FDA Advisory committe site says it will be marketed for children with inattentive type Adhd and also those with moderate hyperactivity symptoms. Hope this helps

I never had any side effects from wellbutrin, but I ran out once and the abrupt stop had a really nasty backlash effect, I'm guessing its the same thing that happened with your withdrawl.  I fell into a deep depression for about 3 days and hardly moved off the couch, far worse than any depression I have ever had before meds.  Too bad the probigil didn't work for you, have you tried it with a small dose of adderall?  Thats what I'm going to try to get my doc to do, from what I have read that seems to work the best for treating ADD with it.Took provigil for about a week--I mean I was so tired on it- My doctor told me he has never ever had anyone tell him that--leave it to me, I do seem to have some reverse effects of meds alot though. I took wellbutrin for about 6 months--absolutly loved it till one day I woke up and it quit working. Wellbutrin has some funky side effects, make sure you keep them in check--keep a log of behavior changes, thought changes, sleep/dream and eating behaviors if you take wellbutrin. Some of my side effects were of concern and with a small child just keep track and stay in close contact with your doctor. The main concern with a small child i would keep a watch on when you first start wellbutrin is driving and thought alteration- also the withdrawl from wellbutrin was pretty bad, I was basically in bed for about a week. Like many said & I agree meds effect everyone differently-

psychgirl-- thats so crazy about you being tired, you know it doesnt make me seem to be tired but around noon i lay down with my son and sleep so good for about 2 hours. also at night i sleep so sound, i dont get up in the middle of the night anymore. although i have noticed i have been having some really freaky dreams. i still feel that i am gonna need to add something like wellbutrin to the mix, cause i have such an issue with being easily irratated and bitchyness and i dont want to be mad with a 19 month old.. sorry it didnt work for you, how long did you take it?

A joint american/dutch company is developing a DNA based ADHD medication that's already in testing over in Europe.  Basically, the pills are made from your own DNA and 'do things' to counter-act the ADD (i guess they change the DNA slightly).. so far, from the information i managed to talk out of a representative of the company, the tests are extremely succesful and the pill is not a stimulant, she also said that out of all the test subjects (some 150 people in Germany and Holland) only two got some VERY slight side-effects.. She did slip up a little during the conversation and mentioned 'cure', so that sounds VERY promising (i am on the list for america based testing)..

At the same time, they are developing similar pills for obesity, depression, anxiety and a whole host of other things.. if these pills work as well as they claim (their joint pill is already on the market in Europe and VERY effective for people with joint problems without any real side-effects) this company may just have found the big breakthrough in medication..

Obviously, this is not cheap tho, since they make the pills specifically for YOU, not for the general masses.

But, only time will tell :)

Hemmie - that's a SCAM.  The only way to alter DNA right now is with an altered virus containing spliced human DNA.  They've done some work with things like congenital heart defects and other genetic abnormalities but it's still very much in the infancy stage.

There is not a pill that can do that.  Won't be one for a long time I'd think.  Save your money.

i have been taking it for 3 days and i tell ya i really like it so far, the first day i seemed to be alittle moody and irratable but that has simmered down so far. yesterday i took the second dose for the first time and i liked it so much better. i useed to be so tired in the morning, and now i feel so much more awake.Provigil is so expensive, I have tried numerous meds and finally asked my doctor to try provigil because among other things I am very fatigued. It cost 5 a month! I really hoped it would work for me--Hmmm, I'm a freak! IT PUT ME TO SLEEP! yes, I paid the money, took it for a week, yawned every 5 min and slept really well--It sucked!anyone else tried this yet or know for sure when it will be approved?read the posts about it on remedyfind, they are pretty interesting and I am waiting to hear back from my doc about getting on it myself. http://www.remedyfind.com/rem.asp?ID=18608Interesting note: Provigil is being looked at by the US Air Force for use as a sleep deprivation aid to replace amphetamines such as dexedrine.  Seems it can keep a soldier/pilot up for days without all the side effects that come with other such meds.   Just thought that was interesting.
