Woo hoo! New books! | ADHD Information

Have you tried Stopping ADHD yet?  I just ordered two more off Amazon in the used book section and they were both under .00!  This book has the most interesting theory about what causes ADD.

My books finally arrived, yay!  I have read a bit of all of them and I am very happy to see that ADHD self help books are not the library of crapola they were a few years ago.  My initial impression of them, and the order I intend to read them in is:

ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life, by Judith Kolberg & Kathleen Nadeau, Ph.D.

Don't worry, I cringe at the thought of yet another organize your life disaster.  However, this book doesn't start out like any of the others.  "Strategies that work with your ADHD instead of fighting against it" sounds like a place to find some promising ideas that don't involve barbaric torture or unrelenting disappointment.  *grin*

ADD & Romance, by Jonathan Halverstadt, M.S.

Has a bit of a negative start, but more than half the book is devoted to positive/constructive ideas.  The author doesn't look at ADHD as if it was a stand alone slice of life, either.  It is refreshing to see someone talk about ADHD realistically, as one of many relationship factors instead of THE PROBLEM.

Complete Guide to ADHD, by Thom Hartmann

I am really interested in these "what ifs" and Hartmann definately appeals to my philosophical tendencies.  I haven't really read enough to figure out what is making my BS detector go off, so far he has an interesting and well thought out theories.  *shrug* I will keep you posted.

Delivered from Distraction, by Edward Hallowell, M.D., and John Ratey, M.D.

They did it again.  These guys raise "basic ADHD education" into high art.  They seem to spend more time discussing positives in this third book, I am glad they did, I can't wait to read it.

Scattered, by Gabor Mate, M.D.

This looks like it might have some interesting ideas, if I can manage to stay awake/pay attention that long.  Kind of thick on the social/cultural/academic style, but I haven't decided to make it a home for my dust bunnies just yet.

ADD in Intimate Relationships, by Daniel Amen, M.D.

Snore.  If you haven't yet read about Dr. Amen and his brain scans, go for it.  If you have already read anything by Dr. Amen, this would be a duplicate as far as I can tell.

annidagostini,

what exactly is that theory?
