Attend? Has anyone tried it? | ADHD Information
It sounds like the school doesn't know what ADHD is, and should accomodate him a little more. My son is 15 and ADHD. He is smart enough to do very well in school, with just a little effort. He is not a good student. He passes his classes, but that's all. He doesn't have accomodations, other than more room on tests, because of his poor writing. It sounds like your son is getting far too much homework, and you could ask them to cut it down, because of his disability. Some schools don't look at it like a disability, but it is. I don't blame you for being worried. He's been through alot of changes as well. It sounds like everyone is trying to talk you into believing he is capable. He may be very capable, but is overwhelmed. You sound like you've got a handle on things, but are listening to others tell you that he can do it, and is manipulating you. I'm sure this is really confusing. Trust your instincts, mothers really do know whats best. Sometimes it takes a while to figure it all out though. Others will be able to help regarding natural remedies. I never went that route. Good LuckHi this is my first time here. I am in the process of trying natural meds, at least i will be as soon as it gets here. We are military and are stationed in Seoul, Korea. I have to order everything by mail. Has anyone tried Attend, Memorin, and Extress. It comes seperatly or as a pack. My 12 yr old was dx 6 yrs ago with adhd. We tried ritilin, adderal, concerta, straterra and combinations of them. They all had the same side effect with him. Stomach pains, nausea, and insomnia. Even off meds he has a hard time with sleep so the meds only made him worse. I took him off about a year ago and it has been good and bad. We only moved here 6 weeks ago and this school is harder then the one he came from. They are extremely strict when it comes to grading and organization. He failed a ten question test for not putting a period at the end of his sentences. They also have a split schedule 4 classes one day and 4 the next. So far this has been a disaster for him. He is expected to sit in each class for an hour and thirty five minutes then change to the next. We have had 1 book report , a scrapbook, plus 3 other poster board type projects on top of homework, and classwork. All of this in only five weeks. They have suggested that I take him to the child psyc. here and have him evaluated again. Of course they want him on meds. I am extremely overwhelmed by his workload so I can only imagine how he feels. Everyone including his father says he is not giving 100 percent effort and he just needs to try harder. The counselor and a new friend of mine say that my son is just trying to pull the wool over my eyes that it is not as hard as he makes it seem. I am at the point that i just feel like i dont know anymore. Maybe I am just to soft. I have never been very good at sticking with a schedule and checking his work everyday. I guess now we will both pay for that. Sorry this got so long and jumped around alot. i just feel overwhelmed by this new situation and am not sure what my next move should be. Any advice would be appreciated and if anyone has tried the natural meds i mentioned above please let me know.
