Addrell XL | ADHD Information

    Is this the adderall XR you guys are speaking of? If so:

Adderall XR is composed of these little pellets that have 3 or 4 dissolving layers (for time release) and the drug layer, containing amphetamine salt combonation (which is released throughout a sliding time scale). The release is so slow, that you really don't even notice the transition. I've  been on the 10, 20 and 30mg XR's, as well as dexadrine (dextroamphetamine hydrochloride) in capsule and tablet form, Concerta, and of course (through half of my high schooling) Ritalin (methylphenidate hydrochloride).

True, a few select people have had problems with anger or (rarely) violence, but this is typically due to either 1.) a chemical imbalance, 2.) the child / adult was mis-diagnosed and may have learning disabiliy, OCD, soc. anxiety disorder... in which case YES the medicine's side effects may seem worse.

Just so you all know, I have dealt with ADHD all my life, as I still do today, and I'm currently in college about to recieve a BA. The only thing you really have to worry about with adhd (for the MOST part) is if it is correctly diagnosed.

Before they even had these types of meds, I went through periods of being on PHENOBARBITAL (a barbituate, the same type Marilyn Monroe had a bout with)
and THORAZINE. This is probably the worst case of diagnosing I know of. I would literally drool on myself at times, sitting there like a total zombie. In the eyes of the doctor or teacher, I WAS CALM, and SEEMED FOCUSED.

Make sure to get feedback from your children when they start something new, so you know how they FEEL as well as how they behave.

hello welcome  addrell in any form has a potential side affect that  most doctors are not aware of addrell will in some children make them violent i stress some children as drugs affect people differently  in my son addrell made him extremly violent my wife had a black eye from on such incedent  but in others it works great so be very watchfull of mood changes

 

Hi Heather.  If I understand correctly she takes the meds twice a day.  When she switches to the XL, it will be 1 pill a day, in a time release capsule.  I do not know if they offer a 5mg XL, you can call a pharmacisit regarding that.  We found, if my son took it at 7:30am, it would start wearing off around 2:30pm. 

Regarding what trouble1 mentioned, while my son never became violent, we found that he did become very angery when coming off the meds, his Dr. called it a rebound effect.  We saw this start happening after being on Adderall for 6 months.  Just stay remember to report any mood changes to the Dr. 

My 6 1/2 year old daughter is taking the regular Addrell 5 mg morning and noon.  She is doing well on it.  When she goes back to the dr in 2 weeks she will be put on the Addrell XL so it lasts all day and she wont have to take it in school.  Is the XL longer lasting? Right now the noon dose lasts till about 6pm. Will the dose be higher since she is taking once a day instead of twice?  How long does one dose last?  How fast does it start working?  Thanks for answering my questions!!
