Want to try Adderall | ADHD Information
Hi,
I'm currently taking Ritalin LA for ADD and want to try Adderall because Ritalin seems ineffective, but don't know how to tell my psychiatrist. Is there any place I can get a sample/ small amount? How does one discuss these things without sounding like an addict?
hi Lil,
It sounds to me if your already taking ritlin your Doc must know you have ADD or ADHD? Just tell him /her the ritlin is not working for you and if he dosn't agree to try you on somthing else, find a new Doc someone you can talk to openly thats willing to try new drugs. somtimes it takes a few different percriptions to get the right one.

PS: i know how you feel as i am a recovering addict and i have to be very carful that i follow my Drs. dosage. But I have Add and i need help with it and my dr knows it so i am very open with him. I too just started Adderall yesterday 40mgs 1/2 4 times a day i will post in a few days to let you know how it goessmush38779.5826736111My doc gave me a card/coupon from Shire Pharm. for a FREE 30-day supply of Adderall XR (Shire--the pharm company that makes adderall xr). The little credit card size thing had an 800 # you had to call then type in the code from the card and tell them that you have NOT used Adderall in the past 30 days.
I got a pescription from the doc, called the 800 #, waited about 30 min., went to the pharm and got the Rx filled at no cost. Adderall XR works well for me, but is SUPER expensive.
I'm looking for the same thing. Don't have insurance yet and just want
to try a few to see if they work. If I got back to the doc gotta pay
100 and another 100 for meds.
Too bad all the anti-med groups have such a deathgrip on our meds or you'd be able to get one of those sample packs.
Still - I'll bet if you ask your MD about adderall that you can get a smaller dose that's cheaper - say a week or less. For example my Rx for dexedrine for a month (before insurance) is 106.80. That's 120 10mg capsules. So a week should be 28 pills and would end up costing 26.70. Most MDs will prescribe on a weekly basis and even if not - I know my exgf gets her pills weekly when she's broke as the pharmacy splits it up knowing she's in bad straights.
So maybe get a week's Rx (or a month and split it up into 4) and see what gives. It's worth it - if Ritalin isn't working then try others! Most good docs are aware that you have to try a few things before you get what works.
