O.K.  Deciding he would do fine in regular ed and formally dismissing him from SPED are two different things.  My son is SPED, and he only takes general ed classes, no self-contained SPED.  It's very important for you to get that paperwork out and look at it.  If they are talking modifications and IEP's, then that's SPED, whether he's in self-contained or general ed.  Did they say "modifications" or "accommodations"?  If they said he could get by in general ed with accommodations, then they are dismissing him from SPED and offering him the possibility of a 504 Plan, if needed.  What that would mean is that his reevaluation still indicated a disability, though not one severe enough to require Special Education services.  I know this is confusing, but you have to understand what the paperwork says before you can decide what your next move is legally.  They did reevaluate and determined that he would do fine in regular education classes.  When this decision was made, we were told that the classroom modifications would be present, if and when needed.  It seems that those have disappeared.  I am confused on what this is called...I thought that was still an IEP, but I must be wrong. What do you mean by "feel"?  Did they reevaluate him and find that he no longer qualified for Special Education services?

My son is in the 5th grade and has trouble with his comprehension.  This is mainly when he is having to read in class due to distractions.  We have asked for him to be allowed to go to a "quiet" room to read.  The teacher will allow this, only when she feels it necessary.  On Friday, I received a phone call from his teacher basically telling me what a bad child I have.  I called a meeting with the principal (the teacher's husband, by the way) and the assistant principal.  We were successful in changing his class.  He was in special ed last year for his reading, but we had our ARD and decided he could be in regular class for this...I was told at the time that they would provide accomodations for him.  This hasn't happened, and when I asked about this Friday, they said they didn't have to.  What should I do about this?  I thought we had something in place (I don't know the wording for this, either), but I seem to be wrong.

I appreciate any help on this!!!

The first thing you need to do is look at your ARD paperwork.  Was he formally dismissed from SPED?  Yes, he was formally dismissed from SPED.  They didn't feel this is what he needed.
