I'm going to stop complaining about my insurance.  Dang, Fried!  That's expensive!  I pay less on Adderall, Wellbutrin and Pdoc visit all together.  Can you try a different med that is less expensive?  a month on a "discount" Pdoc?  doesn't sound much like a discount to me.  Mine is  . a month.  Like I said, I'm gonna stop complaining.  I hope someone can give you good advice, I certainly am not.

Let me think,  Repairman takes caffiene pills, maybe a step above coffee anyway.

totally understandable - people don't like going in to begin with - and every month? Must make some very skeptical.  But it's for your good not to rack up a bill for sure.

The pills merely snap you out of the fog and give the tools to be normal.  But if you don't know how to begin with how can you? Might as well be taking sugar pills after a while - that's why you hear about the pills "wearing off" when you read the posts.  The pills aren't wearing off - the people are just coming back to old habits as they don't know a better way.  Self-therapy is about as bad as self-medicating in my books.

Thanks Glen.  I agree on the self-therapy in most cases, but in any case I know I am no child psychologist.  I would imagine the whole family would need to be engaged somewhat, though.  I certainly would want to learn as much as possible and be able to support the little tyke.  However, I have no experience as to how this is done with a child in therapy.

Cognitive therapy cynthia is pretty straightforward.  It's much like occupational therapy after someone has been injured and is learning to use a limb again.

Mostly what the therapist does with the child is go through exercises where they play out everyday situations.  The therapist will question the child on how they think they'd do it - then they work out a non-ADHD way to do it!  Pretty simple but really when meds and therapy of that kind are together the kid actually gets it!

Well worth the effort too.  I can see that I'd have been a happy normal kid if I'd have been aware of the whole ADHD thing and had therapy too.

Wow, that sounds great.  I am going to look for a therapist right away.  Thanks again.

Most pharma companies have special plans for low-income people.  There was a listing of 800 numbers a while back (check going back to around xmas).

That's my problem....they don't consider me "low income"....

"Debt ridden" is more like it.  Trying to pay it down, like the rest of the world...

Is there a new medicine available in the U.S. yet, that does the same as MetadateCD ?

I can't continue the repeated "discounted doctor visits" (.00  a month)  and Metadate Rx at .78 @WalMart Pharmacy (once a month)  I have two teen sons and a wife at home....I stopped the Metadate, and am chugging coffee, but I'm seeing the bad sides of my ADHD reappearing.

The doctor tried skipping an exam (one visit every two months), lowering expenses a bit, but this is still a huge chunk out of total family income.

I'd apply to them nonetheless.  Also look at the generics of different meds.  Like Ritalin - you get the methylphenidate generic.  I have heard some say they don't get the same result though I can't see why.  The FDA (and the canadian counterpart) make very sure that generics contain 100 percent of the same active ingredients and the carriers are identical.  Only color and shape really are different and that's just dyes and gelatin honestly.I know what you mean about the debt though fryed.  I'm finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel.  Of course a big part of my "debt" was personal guilt but even so now I feel relieved that I am saving towards something for me - not the Canada Revenuers, my exgf, or the other debtors.  Still have a couple grand in bills but they are now manageable.  Only painful one is the bill for my van I can't drive because it died.  Haven't even transferred it from my parents to me yet lol.  Ugh that's not funny. Is that the normal procedure to have to see the doc once a month?  I hope not.

you're supposed to you know.  Otherwise it's when you see people here agonizing over side effects, changes in mood/temperment, etc.

I know that can cost when there is no insurance - but even if you see a non-profit group's therapist in between to gauge when things are/aren't working?  It's important to get talking WHEN everything works - and find out why when it doesn't .

Wow what a coincidence!

Just saw on CNN that montel williams is helping a group called the partnership for prescriptions alliance (PPA).  They have a low-cost Rx program to set up people with affordable help.  If you can get medicare/medicade they say you can get help.

Try the number (hope I got it right) 1-888-4PPANOW.  Check the CNN site too. They supposedly have a setup on the web to apply as well.

Hope this might just help! Wow - fluke or what?

GlenW38782.4979282407Thanks Glen.  OK I see the reasoning in it now.  It was just a surprise because with meds for depression I only have to go in for that once every three months.   I can see I have a lot to learn about it.  We do have insurance now or we could not afford it at all.  The doctor visit and meds comes to only 45.00 per month.

I can see the talking would help, as we have seen a vast improvement in school work but some of the behavior is still very ADHD (I guess), usually in the morning or evenings, but also just some tacky behavior anytime.  Seems to me we have some work cut out for us.   This is about my granddaughter by the way.   She is on Concerta.  Thanks, Glen for your help, I am really 'green' about this and guess I was expecting too much from the meds.   Uh oh.

Yes, Cynthia....the Metadate CD is a controlled substance....the doctors get their license revoked, or suspended, if they don't help keep them controlled.

Like the cough syrups containing alcohol and codeine...many were getting a GOOD "high" from just guzzling the bottle of syrup....."Doctor, I dropped the bottle and broke it...will you replace it?"  My dearly departed Dad saw a bit of this. (Eye Surgeon)
