Where to start? | ADHD Information
My boyfriend was diagnosed with ADHD as a child he is now 36. I am new to ADHD and have just started to do my research in order to help our relationship to survive. He is so hyper that he thinks everything and everyone should be moving at his pace. I wakes at 4:30 am and on the go all day until 8:30 when he crashes. He is very organized almost to a compulsive level. He has no patience what so ever with his children, my children or myself. And road rage, oh my god....... What on earth do I do and where can I start?Tlee, I guess my first question is dose he take any medication for ADHD? If he does not take meds he might want to consider seeing a psychiatrist who specializes in ADHD to see if meds might be an option for him. If he does take meds then maybe he needs a change. Sorry with so little to go on it is hard to give advice. -Gettingagrip-
What I don't understand is why he doesn't realize that everyone else in the world is not as hyper as him. You need to let him know what his behavior is doing to you and how it alienates you and your kids from him (in a sensitive way). I'm hyper but I understand that some people find my behavior interolerable. Even I find my own behavior intolerable when I'm bouncing off the walls.
It sounds like in addition to ADHD he may have obsessive-compulsive disorder. He could definitely use the help of both a psychiatrist and a therapist and you two should go for couples counseling.
Good luck,
