please help me organise my room!! | ADHD Information
Most of the mess in my bedroom is all about CLOTHES. I got rid of half of my clothes, and forced myself to only keep the stuff I actually wear. I have a big plastic tub for dirty laundry in my closet - and another one that stays in the garage for clean laundry. Sure, I get dressed in the garage most mornings, but I no longer have dirty/clean/worn out/boring/ruined clothing instead of carpet.
I have a huge dresser that doesn't contain clothes. (because they are all in the tubs) I put all the other clutter in the dresser so I don't have to look at it. It isn't so cluttery if it isn't mixed in with all the dirty/clean/worn out/boring/ruined clothing.
Thanks for your advice guys! You are a big help! I am now in my new room and I have sorted certain shelves for certain things. It's not so bad.
Clothes just seem to get everywhere though, at the end of the day I just cannot be bothered to hang them, so chuck them on the floor. x
good ?
i dont know
i find having company & entertaining often forces my to keep on my toes
ever been busted by an unexpected visior in the deepest pit of ur mess?
Yes I have and it is so embarrassing! I try to talk to them, whilst clearing my room, tripping over everything as I go along.
Thats a good idea, I should have my friends round more often, just so I keep on my toes.
label everything, My dd has the worse room ever...I am going to empty it out and force her to get rid of things, but she needs a place to put the things she likes so i am goin to do what isobel did, and label, label, label.
you could think about minimalising. throwing out everything
except the best stuff/the stuff you actually use/wear rather than all
the clutter. that might help. simplify! otherwise i
would say make sure you have enough cupboard space to put everything
away so that when your room is tidy --- it looks tidy! without
loads of sh*te cluttering up every surface area.
and paperwork is annoying --- you might be able to get a desk that has
a filing cabinet as one of the drawers. otherwise just an A - Z
file is quite useful. i don't know - it depends whether you in
fact enjoy your clutter and chaos (secretly) or if you really DO want
to be more minimalist, tidier, more organised. sometimes i think
my brain finds it more relaxing to be surrounded by chaos....?????
good luck.
Well, I know the feeling! Even tough I have good intentions my room is always a wreck! Here's a thought... before you move throw away/give away as much stuff as possible, then if you are like me( unable to hang up clothes, endless piles of papers, etc.) Invest in some decorative baskets, bins, or boxes. One's that look nice, are easily accesable(SP) and maybe stackable, in which you can shove all your crap in but is still out of sight( the illusion of neat and clean). This way you don't have to fight your ADD but it will not be a noticeable eye-sore. You will know what lies within the boxes but to everyone else it will appear lovely!

I am moving house with my Mum and bro. Therefore I will have a new bedroom.
Does anyone have any advice on how I can organise my new room from scratch in order to help my ADD ways?
Do I need for example a shelf for one thing, a cupboard for something else. I am just dreading my room looking terrible again, with my paperwork everywhere, my belts mixed with my shoes and my underwear drawer upside down!!
Ok here's what I did.
I've collected good quality shoe boxes. And bought colorful sticky paper. Decorated those shoe boxes with colored paper (so they'd look nice). I also bought a few bigger boxes from ikea. And I got stickers to label them
Then I threw away the things I didn't use at least for the last year. Clothes, shoes whatever. I am so sick and tired of being a packrat
One box is for odd stuff, bills, letters, notes...this one sits somewhere I can see. When ever I have time I go into that box and find a place for those items.
And in the closet I've put all my boxes all together...When you close the door they're gone. Room is all nice... And since they're nicely decorated it doesn't look tacky and I feel like they show my style. And their labels guide me in foggy days.
For example:
A box for office stuff, pencils eraser etc.
A box for mail materials and postcards
A box for my pills
A box receipts
A box for my make up stuff
A box for my hair accesories etc.
And the bigger boxes
My socks in one box
My tshirts in one box
My pants in one box
Even though my husband made fun of me for actinglike a retard (yes he is a great support all right...) I forced myself to get into a routine.
It's been 5 months I am still organized. Everything is still in it's place. I can't even describe my happiness. I am so proud of myself. And everytime I want to throw something somewhere I remind myself about the boxes and how hard I worked to decorate them, how proud I am with myself for learning to organize after all these years etc.
There are also beds that come with storage drawers for bedding. I plan on this for our sons birthday. I also suggest 3 piles 1 throw out, 1 keep, 1 sell. Sell is for a yard sale. Each drawer has a certain thing assigned for that kind of iteam. There is even knobs available with a sample of that iteam to go in there. Shredder for trashed stacks of paper. Our problem is keeping it up daily. Fly lady says spend 20 minutes daily in that room pick up and putting away. I would play music with it helps. Shoe racks also help.
