I agree with SmallMom! I really don't like the ODD diagnostic criteria, but here it is. Keep in mind, this behavior is suppose to impair more than one setting (home and school, e.g.) and is suppose to be worse than other children's of the same age and developmental level.
A pattern of negativistic, hostile, and defiant behavior lasting at least 6 months, during which four (or more) of the following are present:
1. Often loses temper
2. Often argues with adults
3. Often actively defies or refuses to comply with adults' requests or rules
4. Often deliberately annoys people
5. Often blames others for his or her mistakes or behavior
6. Is often touchy or easily annoyed by others
7. Is often angry or resentful
8. Is often spiteful and vindictive
MY DAUGHTER SCHOOL WANTS TO HAVE AND SUSPENSION HEARING...
BECAUSE THEY SAID MY DAUGHTER IS BOTHER OTHER KIDS....
WHAT ARE THE SIGN OF ODD
I guess if they want to have a suspension hearing, then your daughter has a recognized disability? Does she have a 504 Plan or an IEP?
BostonMother, what kind of doctor does your daughter go to?
In my humble opinon, ODD is not a helpful diagnosis. All it describes is a list of behaviors that are generally the result of an underlying condition. When the underlying condition (ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorder, etc) is treated, the oppositional behaviors improve. You need to get at the underlying disorder.
A child psychiatrist, but all she does is talk to her for 45min and that's it ... Man this is getting too me.... Before we had focsing issue now that is better now its her temper...BostonMother, you need to call the psychiatrist and set up an appointment for you and your daughter's father (if in the picture) WITHOUT your daughter. You need to keep a log of all the behaviors you're seeing and present the log to the pdoc. You need to tell the pdoc the meds are NOT helping and in fact may be making your daughter worse. You need to make the point that maybe you are not looking at ADHD and perhaps something else entirely.
HEY SMALL MOM... I JUST CALLED AND THEY SAID THE LADY MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN SEEING IS A SOCIAL WORKER....
Your daughter absolutely needs an evaluation by a board-certified child psychiatrist. Ask your pediatrician for a referral.
HEY SM
THE PERSON WHO DX MY DAUGHTER IS A DELVOPMENTAL PEDI.
You may also want to look into early onset bipolar. THese kids are over-the-top angry. ODD rather stands alone. ODD is more a list of behaviors than a helpful dx.
OlderMom38784.4200231481We went to a developmental ped for a while. He was great at coming up with school and other interventions and also advising us as parents. He bombed at the meds and sent my son into mania (as in bipolar disorder). There is no other professional who has more training in psychopharmacology than a psychiatrist. The educational code for your state lists the criteria for suspension. Which of the criteria is the proposed suspension for? "Bothering other children" does not qualify.boston mom are you in a public school? seems to me like you need alot more than just bothering other kids to be suspended....ask for an evaluation in writing
