Meds--Skip weekends? | ADHD Information

The thing though is that if you have high blood pressure, you have it every day. I only have trouble focusing during the week at work. My ADD does not extend into my personal life. (other than being late for everything).  it's more like tylenol: you take it when you have a headache.

i have a question i hope anyone can answer, i'm on 20mg's of adderall xr and it has improved my bowling, i just got my dosage increased from 15mgs march 8th. i took a 20 after not taking any the previous 3 day's(i was building a tolerance so i decided to stop for a bit)and it didn't work as well as i thought it would, i took my first 20 on league night, march 9th and i didn't bowl so well. could taking three days off be the reason i didn't do so well? i was hoping it would make the 20's work better by taking a few day's off. but maybe there has to be a build up of adderall in me to feel the effects. if i take day's off and i want to have optimum effects on thursdays, should i take the day's after or before thurdays for off days?         & amp; nbsp;

please, somebody help. Confused Jerry!

I lost all but one of my strings about a year ago.  I found a new string a few months ago.  I suspect that I will gradually, in my own good time, find new friends and add them to my life.  I interact with the world of people on an intermittent basis these days.

My universe is nice and comfortable.  Not a bad place to hang out while take my time dealing the world.
Thanks to you all. =) Does Pdoc mean psychiatrist or primary doctor?
Go to work.

I sell and install irrigation computers.

They sass me, I unplug them.
As for the thread, I take med vacas (that moo), on weekends, unless I'm a gonna need my foci.

I do it b/c of finances.

My health is wealthy, otherwise.

I'm on Ritalin 20LA and my doctor told me I can take it as I want. I have a bunch of 5mg as a back up or if I work long days.

I usually take the meds Mon-Fri and skip the weekends. Somehow my ADD affects me more at work than at home so I'm fine just "being myself" on a weekend unless I have work to do, then I would take meds on weekend too. I don't find that the break increases or decreases the efficacy of the meds on Monday. And I don't feel any withdrawal effects on a weekend.

Quote jerbear -  "i took my first 20 on league night, march 9th and i didn't bowl so well. could taking three days off be the reason i didn't do so well?"

I have heard that after a few days to a week break that when you go back on the Adderall (at the same dose) that it may be more effective.

But you took 3 days off and then took a higher dose.  So no, I don't think you didn't bowl so well becaust of the break.  You just sucked that night...sorry

bepatient38787.9855092593Perhaps your ability to cope at homne on weekends is cuz you develeoped and proven successful coping techniques. I have. Tossed out all the distractions, and enclose my elf in a duty room.

I have noticed the less need for Rit in such an environment.

Guess it's when others need to interact with me, either I haven't developed a working strategy yet, or its so stressful I take my meds to understand quickly therefore lessen the stressin'...
My granddaughter's doctor suggested not taking the meds (Concerta) on weekends, during summer and spring break.  This is to extend the life of the meds and not have to increase the mgs so fast.  She takes them mainly for school anyway and really is not that bad during her time off.   My Pdoc wants me not to miss any days.  But, occasionally I do forget. There's always the "med holiday" method.  You take your med every day through the week.  About every 2 months you schedule one week off.  This may sound tough but when you come back to your dose it's very much like the first day you took them for strength.  It's recommended by my psychiatrist and my doctor agreed.  Check on it!Thanks to you all. =) Does Pdoc mean psychiatrist or primary doctor?I try not to take them on the weekends.  It gives me body a chance to recover from the extra energy I have during the week.  I work full-time and go to school at night, so my doc put me on Adderall XR 20mg daily during the week, but on the weekends I take a 10mg regular adderall only if I have to study hard.  I feel so much better on Monday if I don't have to take any on the weekends.  My recommendation is to take it only when you need it.  Don't become dependent on the stuff.  It is great and improves our quality of life, but unless there is a need to take it every day, why do it?  I try to skip at least one day. One where I can lounge about as if dead. I try to reduce my intake at worst. I had a large portion of my prescription stolen a few weeks back and the forced vacation was hellish at times but mostly bearable because I had to bear it. Not fun by far but I made it.

It was more depressing and hurtful almost to realise that one of the few people I trusted wasn't really worthy of my trust. It was the last whack over my head from her that finally made me see the situation differently, permanently too I think.

I skip on weekends sometimes, when I plan to just stay home and relax.  I also have time to cook/go out to eat and enjoy my food - so it is good to have a day when I truly feel hungry.

thanks y'all! =) you're very helpful! =) i was just diagnosed last year, so i'm still pretty new to all this!Ha!

I was dx'd 10 years ago.

And I'm still pretty.

New at this.

to med or not to med.........

look at it this way, if you had high blood pressure and had to take meds to control it.  would you stop for two days, because you didn't think you needed it on Mondays and wednesday. or would you take it everyday?

here is another point to ponder.....

meds like rit. or adderall are only in your system for the duration of the meds, like tylenol, when it wears off it wears off and is no longer there, but meds like strettera, that take several days or weeks to  get into the system to work are in your system for a while.  if you miss a day you still have something in your system.  if you miss a day with the former you are you with no meds.

think about it.

thanks. =) I thought so too--that I should take it everyday...btw i'm taking adderall xr 15mg...and my weekends have been kinda 'blah'

To people who take ADD/ADHD meds...do you take your medication everyday or do you skip the weekends (or when you don't have to work)?

I always take them, I think it's not healthy not to take them as we wish. Even  if I won't work I still need to be able to talk to someone or watch a movie without any distractions.

I had times that I forgot refills etc and after a few days you feel really bad because of the withdrawal

That's all I am going to say about this subject :)

it depends on the meds.

it also depends how you react to them.

it you skip the weekend it may take all of monday to get back to normal, so then tue - friday things are good then you go off and start all over.

some meds that take several weeks to get into your system before you feel their effects, missing one day is nothing, cause it is in your system.  but no more then one day miss.

I would not miss a day, it is really hard on you, more then you think.

My doc told me not to take them on weekends. I still do as weekends are my busiest times and where I need to be organised and remember the most stuff.
