My 12-year-old son takes 0.1 mg Clonidine at night to help him get to sleep. It works wonders. My understanding is that both Tenex and Clonidine help with impulsivity and hyperactivity, but do little for inattention.
Hi tas, I am pretty new to this site. But I can tell you that my grandson is on 1/2 tab clonidine before school and 1 tab at bedtime. I wish I could tell you the dose, but I am not sure as he does not live with me. However, I can tell you it made a tremendous difference for him. He is 10yr old dx ADHD/ODD and was expelled from school third week in sept 05. He just recently was allowed to return. He is doing much better now and it can be attributed to the clonidine
Hi Tas,
My son is also on .1 mg Clonidine at bedtime. Within 20 minutes of taking it he quiets right down and is asleep within 30 minutes. I do know that the psychiatrist said several children take a half a pill for ADHD and it works well for them.
Hi! My twelve-year-old son was on Tenex until day before yesterday, when his meds were changed. His new dx is PTSD and mild ADD. The Tenex was supposed to help him sleep, and it did not, but it did calm him in a very subtle way. He has never been irritable or tempermental, just antsy. The Tenex "took the edge off," and I was very pleased with the results. thank you everyone for your replies and suggestions. I may give the clonidine a trial and see how it goes. Maybe we will be able to trade this face with this one
.My son started taking Clonidine at around age 4. Before that we feared for his safety quite literally. Before prescribing the medication in the pediatrician's office, the pediatrician was amazed that my son hadn't broken any bones up until that point. The Clonidine worked amazingly well. One word of caution, however. The first few days that your child is on it, they may be VERY sleepy. It can be a little upsetting to a parent if you're not prepared. This does gradually fade over time but you may ask your doctor about your daughter beginning the medication on a school break or over the weekend, etc. Just to give her time to work through that phase. Good Luck!
