Wish me Well...School meeting today | ADHD Information
good luck! This afternoon is when we meet to get the school's reccomendations from his testing. I all but had to force the issue to get the tests done so I am nervous about this meeting. I know we don't have to commit to anything today but I just don't know where all this anxiety is coming from over this. I have to go get Andrew take him to his psychologist apointment at 2 and then return to the school for the appointment at 330. This is not gonna be a lot of fun I am sure. I have never sent him to school unmedicated so they have no clue what this child is really like only what he is like heavily medicated. Well I guess they may see soon because we are going to see a new psychatrist in two weeks and I am going to ask him if we can do a med wash and start over just because we are having problems with the adderall xr and he does have a lot of bp symptoms. If we med wash they the school will get to see him in full mode. kristyolk, GOOD LUCK and relax everything will be fine... i am going thru the same thing right now.. we had a meeting last monday and they didn't want to test dillon due to his age (4) at lease that is why i think..anyways once you put the request in writing they have to test him.. if this is your 1st meeting they most likely won't test him today..they will just want to go over the problems you feel your son is having.. you might want to ask your sons psych.to write a letter to the school..or if your son is seeing a therapist see if they can attend the meeting..once again GOOD LUCK..i hope your son gets the help he deserves.... On the bright side Sheri the testing is already done. It took over two months to complete this but atleast that part is done. I just happen to know that the school psych there is a gonna be a bit of a problem since when I first put in my requests she ignored it and then when I pushed it I got a call from her asking "Why do you want him tested why do you think he needs this?" I told her 1 because he is enttled to it under SPED law, 2. he is below grade level in everything, 3 homework is a nightmare, 4 as an ADHD child struggling he needs whatever accomodations that are necessary for him to achieve
I know the feeling Kristyolk, i went through the same thing with my son. They ignoerd my requests or just kept putting them on the back burner until I forced the issue with them as well. seems like this is the way most school districts act on these issues.
Good luck!
kristyolk, how did the meeting go? i hope everything went the way you wanted it to... I just quote the laws and it gets what we want from school. My problem is I don't believe a iep is the only answer. I believe as said many times before they need different teaching methods. I believe this is what would really help the most. well according to them he does not qualify for anything but the teacher herself is willing to do some things to help. like tweak their math system so that andrew can actually do it. But the others say he is normal on all levels. Well I am pretty sure that any kid on 40 mg adderall is not normal. He may be functioning at school but not anywhere else and homework is just a nightmare here. Was he tested on or off the adderall?Good luck, let us know how it goes!Oh he was on it when they did the testing but when we go to a new pschiatrist and we do a med wash to try to finally figure out the dx since he displays symptoms of bp as well they are gonna learn what my life is like. I had a previous school system beg me to medicate the child and pay for his medicine when we lost insurance and were trying to find a way to pay 238 for his meds a month. Then we went to short acting generic and it took an edge off but that school still saw that stuff was wrong. I think that this little town that I live in is part of the problem. They don't want to have to do the extra stuff.
