Has anyone had any success using an ADD/ADHD coach? DS, Chance, age 10 diagnosed with ADHD at 4 1/2 now is in the 4th grade at a very competative college prep private school. While we have had our issues since pre K when diagnosed he has had great success. I can't say the same for this year. My concerns arrise that next year, 5th grade, he will be moving to middle school. (complete with lockers and changing classes) Issues which we are working hard on this year is organization. I recently found the book "The Organized Student" which is helping a great deal however I fear that I can not get through to him regarding study habits. Prior to this year this has not been an issue. His abiltiy to grasp work during school hours had been enough to keep him making A's and B's but this year is a completely different story. Grades are ranging from A's to F's. Part of this arrises from the same issues every one discusses here , which is rushing just to get finished - whether the work is correct or not. This is especially true in math where he insist on doing it all in his head instead of using scratch paper.
I know that I have run on here but I want those of you in simular situation to understand. I have a son who is extremely bright and well behaved at school, but he is sick of mom on his back! I thought if I could find a tutor or mentor or someone to help me instill in him the importance of study habits, work ethic and so on it would bring a little bit of tranquilly to our home life. So if anyone has had any experience with a Life Coach, please let me hear from you.
For those of you who are wondering, yes he is on medication 15mg adderal xr and a 5mg boost in afternoons as needed.

I have a grown son who went to a private college prep school for a few years. We took him out because, even though he had no disorders and was gifted, he was way too stressed trying to get everything done in a very demanding cirriculum. I don't know what to advise you on the coach, but do you think this a good placement for your son? If you do, I"m not sure they have to accomodate him in any way since it's not a public school. ADHD is an executive function disorder meaning your child is not willfully disorganized and may need special attention as he gets older (again, not his fault). It isn't a matter of forcing a child to understand the importance of organization. As one very disorganized myself, we know it's important, but those with a deficit in executive function just can't do it well. That makes me think perhaps public school may be best for your child as they CAN help him. Good luck. OlderMom38786.4450347222
