txmom,

ditto what was said by no tellin and megmaguire.  there are many alternatives to the meds if you aren't happy with the way they are working and/or the side effects.

check out the alt. board and do some reading.  be sure to discuss with your son's doctor any plans you may have for discontinuing the medication and never just stop meds without this type medical consult. (if you haven't already)

there are several good books to read on homeopathy.  many are avaiable thru the library and some are online to read.  i'm not sure what you know of homeopathy or if you have read any of these before.  let me know and i will post links for the online books and a few sites you can look at in addition to the book names.  post on the alternatives board in response to this (these) posts-okay?

let me clarify tho.  i am not a homeopath, i  use homeopathy almost exclusively for most illnesses in my family and have been studying it for awhile now.  i do however, have a wonderful homeopath who has pretty much taught me everything i know about homeopathy and manages my adhd son's case.

shucks meg!  what a compliment!

My son is 7 years old and was diagnosed ADHD when he was 4.  He has been taking Concerta since this time.  He is up to 54mg and I hate the medicine.  I feel like we have to constanty increase the dose to keep the teachers at school happy.  I don't know if anyone else has had trouble with their child gaining weight, but my 7 year old only weighs 38 lbs.  I was wondering if anyone has done the whole homeopathic thing and if they had good results???

Yes on the homeopathy, check out the Alternatives board. And on the weight gain, do a search on weigh. I have definately seen weight issues related to medication. I believe there are homeopaths who will help you wean off meds if you are interested.

Homeopathy has worked great for many on this board -- you might PM "kppy" -- she is our "resident homeopath."  Some others of us use supplements such as Omegas and/or Magnesium (amongst others) with success.  NoTellin is right -- there is a ton of info on the "Alternatives to Meds" section of this board!  Welcome! Thanks.  Will check out the alternative board!!

Must be nice!  I have had to fight to learn the little I feel I know.  I wish I had someone to teach me.  Seeing it work is incredible- i would love to see it on a grander scale.

this is going to sound crass...but who cares if the teachers are happy? if he's not gaining any weight then he deserves a "break" off this medication so he can eat better and gain weight... low blood sugar is not going to help his attention either...I mean how high are you going to go on the dose ...good luck I agree with jrepscher, I don't care about making the teachers happy, I'm only interested in what's best for my son. If I make a decision that's in his best interest but causes the teacher to work harder or complain---too bad. He's my investment.
