When other people tell you what to do... | ADHD Information

Yes!

I can't even stand telling myself what to do!

I'd rather just act, act, and react.

Redact once in a while, too.
I have a problem with that too.  It's a rebellious streak I have developed from always being told what and how to do things.

MY MAIN ISSUE IS PUTTING THINGS UP WHEN DONE.

It´s like "normal" peolple think you gave up the right to think for your self when you decided to be ADD.  MR_focus38789.5596759259I just thought I had undiagnosed ODD! Now I know I'm a "normal" ADHDer! Whew!Hi would say i have the same problem and i think its because when i loose stuff all over the place people may think they can speak to mi like i´m a child and that pisses me f a bit

I have a new book - ADD Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life.  Some of it is pretty good, but I have a major issue with a big section: having a friend (coach) keep you company while you organize to keep you on task.

I can't stand being told what to do.  I have to listen to myself no matter what, because "normal" advice was bad advice for someone with ADHD.  Even if I know the person is doing what I asked them to do, and they are being truly helpful, I still have a gut reaction of rejection/anger/ stubbornness.  I manage to tolerate doing what my boss says.  Anyone else that even asks me to do something causes an internal battle with my irrational side.

Does anybody else have this problem?  How do you handle it?

i can be terribly indecisive. esp. when tired or depressed.

too many choices, and often i get the details mixed up. too mixed up to choose one option over another.

as for myers-briggs, i was definitely introverted and intuitive. the other two were almost too close to call.

decisiveness takes either formidable confidence, or clear delineation of pertinent details.

i usually can't tell the difference between confidence and impulsiveness, so i can get gun-shy.

my poor addled brain can process lots of data, but so often it ends up in a heaping pile like all my papers here in my house.

I would be INTP, I have taken it before - I forgot, thanks!

So which letter is it that means - "Don't tell me what to do!"

I hate being told what to do!  For some reason about everyone in my life feels obligated to either tell me what to do or what I ought to be doing.  Drives me crazy Do they have an internet test site?Hey, Machine doc - Let's try this one

ESFP - No wonder people tell me what to do, thinking isn't in there Hey!  Machine doc!   You and Reisa's are the same. Don't ya think ESFP sounds ADHD? Reisa, I think its this:

The internalizing nature of the INTP's Sensing function leaves a relative absence of environmental awareness (i.e., Extraverted Sensing), except when the environment is the current focus. Consciousness of such conditions is at best a sometime thing. ADHD, not just for kids anymore!

CG,this is definately an ADHD trait:

When overused or overestimated, however, Thinking becomes a liability

Reisa,

I have that book too. It's sitting right here on my desk..under just a small pile  I WILL read more of it today.

And being told what to do....here's part of a post I made last night...er, this morning from another thread that applies here:

Sometimes (well, more than sometimes) I make my "to do" list for the next day and put it on my re-fridge with a magnet.  The next morning I know full well that it's there.  I avoid it on purpose!  What the fu** is that!!  Good Lord, how I can sabotage myself!  It's like I'm being stubborn with myself!

I gotta take my meds. as soon as I wake up like I used to.  This is bad.

I have been working really hard for a bout two years on organizing and let me tellyou it is so tough but I do it and It has really helped.

also I have slowly takin' control of everything in the process, I WEAR THE PANTS NOW   seraously if you help me in cleaning the house and don't do it my way i flip out.  or put the dishes away a certain away I flip out.

as far as decsion making, i used to be undecisive now i take the bull by the horns and say what i want, unless it doesn't have anything to do with me then i could care less.

I have over come so much of my adhd and i haven't been on meds, been doing my own therapy and man i really have good control, but it came at a price and I do still get major melt downs and uncontrolled anxiety.  when that happens i realized that I still am adhd.  but I really do work hard at controlling it.

try growing up in communism; that definitely taught me how to take direction. No problems with it at all! Quite the opposite.

Does anyone on this board suffer from indecisiveness (cannot decide for one option)? I am curious if it's my ADD or ENFP.

It's communism.

Clean up your leggos!
I'm ENFP.

And I'm not wearing pants now.

It's too late.

You had to pick that one, din't cha?

I took it again today and got ENFP, too!

But I'm wearing pants :-)

It's a Myers Briggs personality test. Anyone who has not taken it should: it's really cool. It's a commonly used business tool to understand why people act the way they do. I'd be curious if ADDs have a certain personality type.

My results stand for E-xtroverted (as opposed to introverted); iNtuitive (as opposed to sensing); T-hinking (as opposed to feeling); P-erceivinig (as opposed to judging)

It shows preference towards something.

Gaining Energy

Extraversion (E) or

Focused on the outside world and get energy through interacting with people and doing things.

Introversion (I)

Focused on the inner world and get energy through reflecting on information, ideas and/or concepts.

Gathering Information

Sensing (S) or

Notice and trust facts, details, and present realities.

Intuition (N)

Attend to and trust interrelationships, theories and future possibilities.

Making Decisions

Thinking (T) or

Make decisions using logical, objective analysis.

Feeling (F)

Make decisions to create harmony by applying person-centered values.

Dealing with the World

Judging (J) or

Organized, orderly and decisive.

Perceiving (P)

Flexible, adaptable and like to keep options open.

I think it is my "P" that wants me to keep my options open and cannot decide on one thing...

Did any of you take this test? I'd be curious if ADD creates a certain personality.. You can do the test online.

Here's a description from one of the sites of me:

For ENTPs the dominant quality in their lives is their attention to the outer world of possibilities; they are excited by continuous involvement in anything new, whether it be new ideas, new people, or new activities.  They look for patterns and meaning in the world, and they often have a deep need to analyze, to understand, and to know the nature of things.  ENTPs are typically energetic, enthusiastic people who lead spontaneous and adaptable lives.

ENFP?So what kind of coping strategy is that?!  I am supposed to invite a friend over so they can tell me what to do... when I am already trying to do a task that frustrates me?  I doubt I would still have the friend by the time whatever got done.  Did any of these authors actually talk to ADDers or did they just make this up out of thin air?
