I am 17 year old female who began taking Zoloft in April 2005 for anxiety and depression. In the fall of 2005 I then started Concerta which has since helped me to focus. I have had no problems with either drug except for if you forget to take Zoloft it makes me very Dizzy and Concerta makes me not hungry at all until after it wears off. Concerta also tends to make my heartbeat faster than usual but is barely noticable. If you ave the opportunity GO TO THE PSYCH not the ped. and not a family doctor. They will hand prescriptions out (at least in the US) to anybody who forgot to brush their teeth one Tuesday. The psych knows what hes talking about.
Hi All,
Has anyone taken Sertraline? My son (22 years - ADD) was on Concerta for about 6 months, seemed to make him much more anxious & have slight paranoia. came off concerta got little better on St Johns. Finally got him on Atomoxetine by seeing private doctor (UK). was on Atomoxetine for 3 days only & got called in to NHS Psychiatist to see why we had gone elsewhere. (which was because we had to wait for about 6 months on NHS) The Psychiatist thinks that the OCD Depression & Anxiety are foremost in my son & put him on Sertraline 50mg once a day initially going up to 100mg daily (this guy confesses he knows little about ADD in adults) WELL WHAT TO DO!!! - conflicting views here - however the Dr who gave my son Atomoxetine is a paediatrician who has knowledge of ADHD (which is the only help we have here in the UK until you get the appointment - 6 months) & the Dr who prescribed Sertraline is a psychiatrist. Although my son forgets & looses things his main problem seems to be low self esteme, Hyperfocusing or slight OCD (not ritulistic - but becomes obsessive about problems or hobbies), depression & anxiety so he decided to go with the Sertraline, because it was an antidepressant (& St Johns made him feel a little better). I am beside myself worrying if we have done the right thing isnt life a BLEEP !!! Any help please
Best wishes to all & hope life is better for you than it is here
p s in case you in US don't know - NHS is free treatment (if somewhat slow) & is paid for by our taxes & ADHD is recognised mainly only in children.
