may I vent? | ADHD Information
Who the heck has a falling out with Amazon.com?! Only me. I ordered
some textbooks on Feb. 18 and have since been battling it out via email
to get the sh*t reshipped to me, because, duh, it's been a month and the
damn package is so obviously lost! So, I finally call Amazon, which btw is
a weird process that involves you submitting your phone number and
then an automated phone service calls you and places you on hold and
then you have to listen to the menu choices that are insulting because
you very well know that you can check order status and change your
billing information on line. I digress. So, when I get a customer service
rep on the line and start to commence barking, she says, "Stop. You
don't have to say anything. It says here that if customer calls, resend
shipment." WTF? You mean to tell me that they weren't going to do crap
unless I actually called and began to cuss someone out? And I could have
called weeks ago?! That is some bull....
Oh, but here's the self-reflective ADHD part of it. I think I was using this
as an excuse to not begin my mid-term paper that was due last Fri. As
in, I can't start my paper until I get this particular book in the mail. The
truth is, I'm overwhelmed already with this task, I'm withdrawing from
Lexapro, and I'm on spring break and would rather loaf around and
daydream about my big ideas...
Wow, I need to breathe deeply or something before I die of a violent
conniption.
Anyhow, thanks for allowing me to vent. (not that you had a choice in the
matter )Oh and by the way, if anyone would like to contribute to my paper, that
would be great! Working title:
Peter Pan, Sally Mann, and Jacques Lacan: The Development and Dissolution
of the Totalized Self.
I'll be up all night. I need to get this thing done by tomorrow morning b/c
I'm going to Michigan for an extended weekend and I want to get it turned in
to my prof. before class next Tuesday. So, seriously, if anyone wants to
help...so THIS is what educated people sound like!!! cool!!!

Paper is still not done, but I'm not dead so I'm okay....
Thanks for the encouragement!
repaiman, that's a great idea. i think i can extract something from Lacan's
Mirror Stage about sociodynamics and children. something about the
societal mirror or something? anyway, that'll get me thinking and hopefully
squeeze out a few extra pages.
thanks!

Try comparing "lord of the flies " with "peter pan" and I'm Sure you can get a sociodynamic' mirror' for comparing real life peer pressure to the "fantasy " type peer pressure often associated with childrens books> they were written as such. Real life situations demand extremes of survival, and although children can have fantasy through books, I't doesen't feed them at the survival level,I.E., lord of the flies.
Hope it helps, Dan

I used Lord of the Flies for at least half of the essay questions during finals throughout high school. (late 60's)
Good luck with you paper! Doing it the last minute is what works well for adhders...provides the adrenaline for stimulation, therefor motivation and a job well done.

LOL, that sounds so like me in college.
I remember starting a term paper at 8pm the night before it was due. ( I"m talking research, and everything!! Talk about stressful!) Got it turned in by a 8:00am class , and by some miracle, got an 88 on it!
Of course, the prof wrote "not your best work" on the paper.. hmmmm I wonder why??
Good luck on your paper!! The good news is you have ADHD!! You can thrive in the last minute scramble!

Should you also include the dis - illusioned self as part of the dichotomy of fantisy V/S real life situations, affinities of children and the sociodynamic of pre-pubescence (how cruel some kids can be because of ignorance of others feelings), related to group thinking opposed to individualism, and the idea that the entire group may be wrong creating peer pressure to follow 'the wrong path' for any particular individual?
Hope its in time?
