Eat, Eat, Eat | ADHD Information

I couldnt agree more. I was eating 3 meals a day and no breakfast and the medicine (adderall) gave me really bad side effects like headaches and much irritability when it wore off. Now eating something when I get a side effect usually starts makes it go away. Three days Without some sort of cardio in can make me very irritable too.

I just posted a topic yesterday about my experience with Alcohol and Adderall XR.  One of the respondents mentioned that I should eat, stay hydrated, and exercise.  This is excellent advice.  Although I am new to the message boards I want to stress to anyone looking for real world stories to heed the advice of myself and countless others on this message board.

If you are taking a stimulant for your ADHD, you will NOT be hungry.  Sometimes, you won't even think about eating.  This is normal.  So I got a double whammy when I started on Adderall.  I have never been a breakfast eater and when my ADHD was untreated I wouldn't eat lunch because it made me too tired to focus so I ate once a day at supper time.  After I started on Adderall I would get very tense and irritable in the middle of the day and I sometimes went two days without eating.  I wasn't paying attention to my body.  I needed to eat.

Those of us with ADHD have something out of whack in our brain chemistry which makes us respond really well to high doses of stimulants, resulting in a calm, focused feeling that would make most people jittery or jumpy.  However stimulants have the same effect on our appetites as they do with the rest of the population, that being they curb the appetite.  When your blood sugar goes down from not eating, you get tired, irritable, and can't focus which counteracts the medication so please eat and eat healthy, fruit, complex carbs, and vegetables work wonders for that midday time when I think the drugs are wearing thin.  I force myself to eat and I am back to normal.  Hope this helps have a great day.

Oh now this is interessting....I was thinking the drug was losing it's strength midday and I would take a booster dose of Adderall fast acting, which would make me really jumpy and have heart palpatations.   I wonder if I just eat a healthy snack if this might do the trick instead?   Thanks for mentioning that.
