Don't fool around with Adderall!!!!! It's an amphetamine that is addictive, and experimenting with dosage without the supervision of your doctor is not wise. I have learned the hard way not to skip days and weekends, because the withdrawal is a bitch and a half. Please be careful.
I take adderall...
Um might I suggest 20 instead? Then try 30? The side effects go up with the dosage. It really is better to bump it up slowly, no matter how badly you want to fix your symptoms. The side effects can really make you feel BAD if you don't take it slow, much worse than not paying attention for a few more days.
Plus, people really respond all over the map to adderall - and nothing stinks worse than taking too much. (or forgetting you already took it) Once it is in, there is nothing to do but wait it out. Yuck!
It sounds dumb, but make sure you eat enough food and drink plenty of water. The initial adjustment to adderall can be tricky. Here is a tip - if you feel a bit tired, that is ok. If you feel like you got run over by a truck, you most likely for got to eat enough food. (Either that or you upped the dose too fast.)
Yeah, the stimulants begin to take effect in a couple of days (they do SOMETHING right away, it's just not generally what you're looking for), and within a week or two you'll really notice a difference. For me, it curbed the hyperactivity right away, but it took a while for the concentration to set in.
Oh, and the last poster is so dead on: it's about learning to use your concentration. I noticed the big difference when I got really busy at work, and suddenly I felt psychic! (This was after two weeks) I was on top of everything, I wasn't forgetting half of the things I had to do, and I could really focus and keep thoughts in my head long enough to take care of the items they were related to. But when things slowed down again, I started to drift back into my usual state because generally speaking I'm NOT used to focusing on things and even trying to remember them, since I know that's mostly a waste of effort and an exercise in frustration on my part.
Good luck! I have an appointment on Monday with a new doc, hoping to get back on adderall.
Actually, it ins't the medication that you have to get used to. It is the brand new steering wheel in your brain that you have to figure out how to operate, since you never had one before.
If you realize the steering is still loose after a month or so, you probably want to talk to your pdoc about upping it.
Also do the sleep problems wear off? jman05:The sleeping thing has actually been weird for me. I've been on Adderall for almost a year now and at first I couldn't sleep at all without taking something for sleep (Ambien). Now I sleep better on Adderall than I've ever slept in my life. Go figure....amphetamines make me sleep better! I guess it's true that us ADDers really do have backward brain wiring!
Side effects get better over time, including the sleeping. He actually gave me 20mg pills so 40mg a day. Also if u are having withdraw on weekends then that is a bad thing because you are becomming dependent on it. I will skip weekends becaus im paying out of pocket and I want to give my body a break from it.
