I mentioned on another thread that my son's teacher had called me a few days ago. One of her comments was that he had pretty much wasted 8 weeks of school. Well, he brought home all his classbooks today. And while some of his marks were not too good, I really didn't think his work was all that bad. It is neat more than most of the time. His colouring in is excellent. I felt a few concerns with his Grade 2 revision work (He's in Grade 3 now). This is part of my homework with him and he knows the work when I do it with him yet these marks were the weaker one's. I don't even want to try and figure that one out.
Needless to say, despite her kind phone call compounding my already deep concerns, I have to say that I am proud of his work. Poor marks too! I can see that even if he does nothing else, he consistently tries very hard.
As a reward, I am going to do something fun like play General Knowledge which he loves doing with me.
It's amazing to me the level of accomplishment expected of kids in the lower grades. I sure wasn't writing book reports in 1st grade, but that's what my DS is doing! You are right! It was all stuff I knew already, so how was it constuctive? Sigh - it had to happen though!
Best of luck with your meeting later - please let us know how it went!
