My grandson has just been diagnosed with ADHD - his focus was OK, but his behavior and impulsiveness was so far out of control it was dangerous. The kindergarten (private) has warned they may not take him back.
My daughter recently put him on adderal - started with 5mg up to 10mg. He did so much better - but the side effect we can't handle.....first, his appetite is totally GONE. He lost 7 pounds in the first month (59 to 52 pounds). We've tried everything to get him to eat. No luck. Next, he develped what I'll call some "tics" - he blinks his eyes rapidly. The higher the dose, the more blinks. Lastly, sleep was not as good.
Can anyone with the same experiences offer some advise? We're desperate. He's such a smart child - but we're not able to take him places or have normal childhood experiences with him without the meds. Can't take him to the zoo, park, out to eat, etc. We love him so much. HELP.
How old is your grandson? If he is very young, sometimes ad/hd is dx's when later something else is found to be going on. Who did the diagnosis? There are many different meds for adhd i would go back to the dr and try something else.
