Some Questions | ADHD Information
I have got some questions. My five years old daughter is making me nuts and I don't know what to do. The doctors tell me she is just hyper but the things is. She is not only hyper constantly but she is getting in trouble at home and in school for her acting up. She doesn't listen to anyone and when she doesn't get her way becomes violent. I can't get her to sit down and do her homework, she refuses to go to bed at night, and it is a chore to get her up for school in the mornings. She keeps getting in trouble at school for not sitting still, taking a nap, runing throughout the halls, bathrooms, and lunch room, hitting the other kids because of her acting up, and today came home from school in trouble because she was acting up and hit a boy in the eye and blacked his eye, the kid had to be sent home early. I can't control her anymore. I have talked to the doctor and they haven't given me a straight answer in what to do. She has been like this since she was 9 months old and then they told me she would grow out of it. I don't know if it is ADHD or some other deep seeded problem she has. Please if anyone has any advice or a similar situation please let me. I am at my wits end.If she is violent, that's beyond ADHD. Have you thought of early onset bipolar? Those kids do get violent at times, especailly if on stims or antidepressants (Straterra). It runs in the family. Mood disorders, substance abuse, and suicide attempts are red flags for early onset bipolar. "No" triggers the rages very often and some, in the early stages of bipolar, can hold together in school then (lucky you) it all has to come out so YOU get it. It's not YOUR fault though. A Psychiatrist (with the MD) is necessary for an accurate diagnosis. Nowhere, in any description of ADHD, does it say "violence." Please do your child a favor (and yourself) and seek a re-evaluation. Good luck :)When the doctors said she was alittle hyper did they put her on any meds?
Wow, your five year old little girl, sounds alot like my five year old son. He has ADHD, Bipolar disorder, and a Physchotic disorder. He got so bad earlier this year that I had to put him in a mental hospital before he hurt someone or himself. They now have him on a mood stabilizier, depakote, which has helped quite a bit, he is still very hyper though. He has been on other medications for ADHD for over a year and a half now.
I no longer have a job, because daycare couldn't handle him. I was fired from a position, which I held for over four years. I am a single parent, and may eventually lose my home. It is amazing how there are no government programs for this situation.
I hope you find some answers, I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers :).

I agree with older mom that it sounds like something more than adhd.
I would find another dr and get another evalution. If you dont like that dr go to another. Do not stop with the dr telling you there is nothing wrong with your child. You are the one that has to live with them and the dr see's them for about 10 minutes every month.
Do not let the dr make you feel like you are the one that is crazy or has a problem. If you keep searching you will find a dr that will listen. Good Luck. Dont lose hope.
