Being curious | ADHD Information

OH, Janna (((Hugs))). So GOOD to see you! I think I owe you an e-mail :)

Hi SmallMom  Nice to see you, friend  Good luck today, let me know how you make out.

I didn't see the DSM Criteria here for ADD - but I haven't had enough time to really look yet. I'm painting the dining room today

Found this though:

ADD / ADHD CRITERIA - DSM IV

INATTENTION (need 6 of 9)

a) often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, work or other activities

b) often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities

c) often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly

d) often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (no if oppositional behavior or doesn't understand instructions)

e) often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities

f) often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks or activities that require sustained mental effort (such as schoolwork or homework)

g) often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g., toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or tools)

h) is often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli

i) is often forgetful in daily activities

HYPERACTIVITY-IMPULSIVITY (need 6 of 9)

a) often fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat

b) often leaves seat in classroom or in other situations in which remaining seated is expected

c) often runs about or climbs excessively in situations in which it is inappropriate (in adolescents or adults, may be limited to subjective feelings of restlessness)

d) often has difficulty playing or engaging in leisure activities quietly

e) is often "on the go" or often acts as if "driven by a motor"

f) often talks excessively

g) often blurts out answers before questions have been completed

h) often has difficulty awaiting turn

i) often interrupts or intrudes on others (e.g., butts into conversations or games)

REQUIREMENTS:

1) Present at least 6 months, maladaptive and inconsistent with development level

2) Some symptoms that caused impairment were present before age 7

3) Some impairment from the symptoms is present in two or more settings (e.g., at school {or work} and at home)

4) There must be clear evidence of clinically significant impairment in social, academic or occupational functioning

Only things here I can really relate to Brandon are in section I, H - none of the others apply. Hyperactivity section, D, E and I. Not 6 of the 9 in either section.

He told me foster parent (the dad) is going to stop him from taking the Adderal (10 mg 1x day). I told him he didn't have that authority to do that, but I don't think the Adderal is doing anything for him anyway.

Janna

Well, Janna, I promise I'll send you the e-mail

You know ALL my secrets now :)

Hi OlderMom (((HUGS)))

I don't remember whos turn it is, but I think you're right, it's yours

I wanted to come read about ADHD and ADD stuff, seeing as how I haven't really, for my oldest son, because his current dx is ADD. Although you and I have discussed this already, and the dx is probably wrong, I thought I'd see if I could fit him into the dx at all. I never really read about ADHD with Dylan, because I just assumed that is what he had, but well - you know how that goes

Not finding much that would fit the older one into the ADD category, though

P.S. Neuropsych appointment went REALLY well for Dylan

xoxo love ya,

Janna

Good morning everyone

One of your posters here told me about this board, so I thought I would come and be a little nosy - hope nobody minds

Just thought I'd say hello - I see a few familiar faces from another board I post on, and reading through some of the posts, they sound all too familiar.

Giving big {{{hugs}}} to all you moms trying to get your children on the right path.

Nice to meet you all. Thanks for letting me come in and browse.

Janna

Hey Janna, you found my other hiding spot, lol,  Hope all is well!

I knew you were sneaky, Razz

Everything's great - hope everything is good with you too.

LOL, thanks you made me laugh, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love your emails, OlderMom

I was reading some of the posts in this forum today. I can't believe how many moms and dads are here that sound just like I did 4 or 5 years ago. Heck, 6 months ago

I may chime my .02 in from time to time, maybe it'll help someone the way you and SmallMom helped me.

xoxoxox love ya

Janna
