Call back to his doctor. If it's having that affect, he should probably change meds.
Change meds. If he does poorly on all stims, he probably doesn't have ADHD, but something else. YOu may want to try Straterra.O.K., smart ladies. I need some MORE help! My 7 year old son has been experiancing a lot of melt downs. He started some new ADHD medicine - Ritalin XR 40 mg. and it seems to help him a lot with school, but emotionally, he falls apart faster. I'm confused. Any ideas on what may be going on or any clues as to how I can calm him from work over the phone. It's getting to the point where his teacher is calling me at work at least 3-4 times a week.
Thank you!
Ritalin can exacerbate co-morbid anxiety as well as act as a depressant for some kids. You absolutely need to go back to your doctor with your observations about your son. Is he seeing a board-certified child psychiatrist?
