Thank you!

Do any of you have an opinion about Ritalin?  This is what they prescribed for my boy yesterday and in the past I heard some bad things about it????

I got it at boarders, I am sure you can find it there or they can order it for you or go to Amazon.com...it has been around for at least 7 years ( my son is about to turn 7)

good luck I am sure you will find it helpful

To Pickels Mom----my son goes to a pre-school through the YMCA.  He will be five in a couple of months and he starts kindergarden in a public school,  what are some things I should ask when we go to register him ?

Joemom where did you find this Magic 1,2,3 book?

I have 1,2,3 magic ...it is a good book and programHas anyoneherad of Magic 1 2 3? My sons preschool teacher uses it. Also, Overwhelemd mom have you tried to get your child inot public preschool? They offer many things Ot has really been a benfit to Nick. I teach special needs preschool too. I only recently found this website and it has really been a life jacket to me!!so on the token system is it just one token per good thing that is done or is it one token for certain things and more tokens for others?

We just found out my 4 year old son has ADHD.

We first thought it ws just dealing with the divorce of his dad and bio-mom, all the fighting changing from happy go lucky to screaming fits at the drop of a dime, not getting along well with others.  At first when we found out there was a sigh of relief, but at the same time I feel so bad for him, knowing that he is all torm inside and cannot help it.

What do you do when the real mom still fills his head with lies and don't follow the scheadule set for him at home, and the grandmother on his dads side although very loving and would never do a thing to harm him,  does not help when she constantly babied him even when doing wrong.

We feel as if we are being pulled so many directions.

Is there any good websites that tell different approaches to helping children with ADHD, rewards sytems things such as that?

Well , this is a pretty goodsite., there are people like you with young children and also some with teenagers...it is helpful to hear about what some of the mom/dad of the older kids have gone throught and learned on the ADHD journey

Also, one of the members (ogram) has a great marble system ( behavior system)..I think if you look back in some of the older posts you will find it...

Welcome

mom to connor,

I have a 6 year old who is also an expert at arguing...one thing that is actually working with him I learned on this site from momiss...when my son starts to argue..we simply say...that is sure an interesting point of view...this stops him in his tracks and he is actually speechless... I think that perhaps he just needs to be valadated

maybe these two guys will be the captain of the debate team in highschool or future lawyers

Thank you for your post, it is nice to know there is someone to talk to that knows what is going on.Hi,
My son was also diagnosed at 4 with ADHD an early age, but I think it was truly a blessing since we have been able to be on top of it since he started school.  I have found that with ADHD discipline does not work most of the time, but that positive reinforcement, a structured routine and behavioral charts and incentives are far more beneficial.  We use a chart at home which is similar to the one they use at school. We chose 1 thing to focus on, the most severe behavior at the time. We are currently focusing on arguing, my son the master of arguing is only 6. If he argues he gets a verbal warning, if he continues we move his stick to the next level which is a warning but he loses the opportunity to earn a small prize for that day.  If he continues to move his stick to the next level he loses a privledge.  We also use a chip/token system.  When we see positive things like doing things to get ready for school by himself or quietly he is rewarded with a token, which he can cash in for time with parent, or cash several of them in for a trip to the park, bike ride with parent, bowling etc. Being prepared with a tool belt for handling these situations which arise throughout the day make it easier to cope and react with less emotion/frustration... Most of the time..
Hope this helps.
