Hi

my DS 11 yr old just started taking Ritalin LA 30mg (his meds had to be changed)   How long have you seen for it to completely start working?  Most meds i have experienced with him have been pretty much immediate but with the Ritalin LA today is the 2nd day and have already gotten a call from his teacher about no HW.  the 1st day on Ritalin LA i noticed by the time he got hom from school which this wk. is Early Release Wk they were not working and that was about 5-1/2 hrs after him taking it.

Thanks

Ava

My ds has taken Ritalin LA for the last few years and you should see it kick in by 45 min to an hour.  Usually there is some effective change in about 30 minutes.  Has he been on other stimulant medications or is this the first time.  If it is the first time for meds it could be that the doc is starting low and the 30mg is not at a therapeutic dose yet.

Hi

No this is not the 1st Medication he has been on Adderal when he was 5 yr old, then Dexadrine then Metadate CD 40mg  The Pediatrician that we switched to last yr changed him to Ritalin LA 10mg 1 tab and Ritalin SR 20mg 2 of those every am.  They were not working as well and due to Insurance Changes (hate when this happens) the new Ped. put him on Ritalin LA 30mg to see if this would last longer, he has been on it now for 3 days and not seeing much of a difference.  My main ? was if it had to build up in the system to work at full potential.  I am already calling the Dr. to see if we can add a 10mg Ritalin LA to make it 40 to see how that would work.  I have got to find a good Psy in our area to take him to i dont think this Ped wants to work out the kinks with the meds.

Thanks for answering
