need some support | ADHD Information

Try getting your hsbnd a med minder.  A little box with days for each day of the week.  Put it somewhere he'll see it, maybe that will help.  He needs to take his meds in order to help you deal with the kids.  You need to be very firm with that.  I think I would be in a padded room if I were you.hi all,  I am just in need of support from people in my situation.  I am literally almost in nervous breakdown mode.  here is my story.  My husband was diagnosed with ADHD and bipolar last year.  My stepdaughter (10)(whom we have full time) has been diagnosed with bipolar, ADD, and ODD 3 months ago, My son (6)was just diagnosed with ADHD 2 weeks ago, and my other stepdaughter(9) has ADD, my little girl (4) is okay as of now.  I have been recently diagnosed with a bout of depression and been having panic attacks (GO FIGURE!!!)  My husband and 10 year old stepdaughter are the only ones on meds currently (if my hubby remembers to take them, which is rare)  Sometimes i just feel like screaming.  I just thought this would be a great place that i can vent and there is someone out there who can relate.  Please offer some suggestions on how to deal....

Why is nobody on meds? With bipolar (I have it) you really can't be stable without. I can't even deal with MYSELF without meds...lol. Not sure how you could deal with an unmedicated bipolar other than to insist they take their meds or else. I take my meds. If my hub had bipolar and wouldn't take them, I'd probably tell him to leave until he stabilized and complied. As for the kids, they would need a mood stabilizer. The bipolar is much more serious than the ADHD. ODD behavior is part and parcel of bipolar, but, once stable on meds, the ODD behavior can actually disappear. What meds is stepdaughter taking? Stims and/or antidepressants can make bipolar behavior/moodswings even worse.

I'll post a better link for you, where the people know more about bipolar. The site is currently being renovated and is down, but should be up sometime next week. Since bipolar is very genetic, you need to watch the two kids who are dxd. with ADHD. It could actually be early onset bipolar, especially if the kids tend to rage and act out.

Good luck!

Check out the "crawlers unite" thread on the alternative thread on this board.  There is a book that has helped me a lot.  It is called Stopping ADHD.

Good luck to you.
