So the 10 mg Ritalin LA is only lasting 3 hours. Is there any way the pdoc would consider a higher second dose? You could also try Concerta (same med, longer-acting mechanism) to see if it works better.
PDD and hyperactivity tend to go hand-in-hand. My son is PDD and the NeuroPsych tried him on stims, but they didn't help him. As he got older, he became almost a couch potato and the hyperness disappeared. I don't know what to tell you other than to maybe wait. PDD alone can cause hypernness and there are no meds for it. If the stims help, maybe a long acting dose is better. [QUOTE=SmallMom]So what time is he starting to bounce off the wall?

he starts around 5:30 pm.
My daughter has ADHD, and has had this type of problem in the past. I have given her a little bit of caffeine containing soda in the past when the hyperness started, and this has helped somewhat. I also have her involved in after school activities several nights a week, including swimming and gymnastics, so this gives her a good outlet for all of the excess energy. My son is ADHD and PDD. He is on ritalin LA 30mg in am and 10mg in afternoon. He does well on this dose except by the time I pick him up from school the meds are waring off and he is very hyper and bouncing off the walls. Does any one have a suggestion that may calm him down in the evening wether it be a vitamin or what ever.

What time does he take his second dose? Is it LA or regular Ritalin?
He takes his 2nd dose at 2:30 when he gets off the scool bus and both doses age LA

Hyperactivity can come along with the PDD - and unfortunately, I don't know of any meds specifically for that.
My 9 year old is PDD and is being treated with an atypical antipsychotic, Abilify, for this (the hyperactivity and lack of attention due to the PDD, we don't think he's really ADHD) rather than the stimulant.
He was on Ritalyn 20 mg. LA also - from Sept to November of 2005. It did help some with the attention span, but didn't really do anything for the hyperactivity.
You should really express your concern to the pdoc. Maybe there is something better out there that can help longer term.
Good luck.
Oops, sorry to cut you off SmallMom
