Welcome.  How old is your son?  Is he on any meds?  Have you talked to his doctor about the problem?

Thanks  do u have a child with adhd?

Smallmom.... My son is 5 and he was put on meds called dexamphetamine, we have talked to the doctors many off times and they just say just try different things, but we have just about tryed everything i can think off

Have you brought this up with your doctor? Sometimes it can just take an adjustment in the time you give your son his medications(if any) to help him sleep at night. What is your nightly routine like?

Maybe his dose is too high, or maybe he needs a different stimulant.

we have tea about an hour and ahalf b4 bed then bath and story and bed time by 730 or 8

His dose can't be too high because his on the lowest dose possible

IMac38945.6934490741My ds takes a capsule of grapeseed extract (30 mg) in a cup of chamomile tea- he falls asleep quickly. Can anyone please give me some help of what i can do to help out my son with his ADHD. He Has got severe sleeping difficulties, its takes a good 3  or more hours sometimes to get him to go to sleep. Help me pleaseSleep.  I used to wonder why my daughter never slept.  We thought it was normal that is until the nightmare started and my endless night of not sleeping.
We have had this problem for many years.  We have tried everything from herbs to just closing the door and ignoring her.  Isn't this what the nanny says to do.
Well her psychiarist has turned us on to a natural supplement of amino acids.  How does this work, we are not really sure but let us tell you after 9 years of no sleep for her and me we are happy to say for her we have found success.  She reguarly falls asleep between 8:30-9:00 every night with no problems.  Not even the endless avoidance behaviors such as drinks of water, tuck me in for the 10th time, or I need to go to the bathroom again.  We give her 1 teaspoon a night.  It doesn't drug her like sleep meds or anything else like that.  She likes it and it even seems to of helped her moods.  We have her take a product called Inositol powder.  We mix a teaspoon in a small glass of water each night.  She says it tastes like sugar water.  It cost us about 45 dollars for a jar of powder which last us about 3 months.  We have noticed that when she misses a few nights ina row she does not sleep as well and is up to some of her bad habits.  We tried this a couple of times just to make sure we were not dreaming and that she really was sleeping.  In fact we can even move her to her bed and/or make noise and she stays asleep.  She also says her nightmares are gone.  She talks about her happy dreams.
We hesistated about trying this but talked with a couple of other people about thier success.  Her therapist has used for her family including her for the past year so we decided that if it works for her then it was worth a try.
I am not sure how to get it because we get it through her therapist, but there is a web site listed on the jar.  www.DesignsForHealth.com
Has anyone else out there tried it?
Shelly

that could help thanks

ok thanks, i might give it a try do you know if it will affect the medication he is on now??

We checked with our doctor, as our daughter is on Adderall XR, and apparently you have to be careful with the OTC meds that you take with it.  He said that it would be safe.  We give her a 25 mg capsule.

his only on dex so i will ask our docIt never hurts to check.  I know that this is one of the few things that he has said it would be safe to give her.ok thanks for your help!, i will definatley be checking things outI do not think so, but I would check with a pharmacist or doctor.  I have also heard good things about melatonin, and that is just about and sometimes better than benadryl.
