I am starting to wonder does ADHD get better as it goes on or does it stay the same? my son is 5 and doesn't have any signs of changing at all!, i don't think i can cope much longer with this its tearing us apart!!!
eliza2138806.8123032407can anyone please give me some advise of what to do next? i have tried so many different things but none of them seem to work!, our doctor has put him on dexamphetamines but they haven't changed anything at all.
His totally disobediant, delibratly hurts his sister all the time for no reason at all, his consititly climbing up things, jumping off things, yelling at my and punching and kicking me and saying really hurtful things like i hate you mum, i don't love you. losing his temper something cronic, i can't do anything to calm him down i am starting to feel like a complete failure, even my daughter (age 3) watches what he does and tries to copy him.
He has no fear at all and its scary!, just one day last week we were shopping and he ran out onto one of the most busiest roads here with out looking at all and he had no reason for doing it. Its embarrasing going anywhere with him, i try and stay at home as much as i can, its getting rediculas!
Sometimes thing do get some better with age, but mostly with meds. I read somewhere that by puberty, or somewhere near there, the hyper calms down some and turns into inattentive. My son is only 8, so I have yet to experience it. Read the book,Your Defiant Child by Russell Barkley. I read another of his books and have just started this one, and some of the tips are great. How many meds have you tried? It the dex the first one?
Eliza, when meds don't work, it can play out as one of three scenarios: 1) it's the wrong dose (he's at a very low dose -- may need a higher dose); 2) it's the wrong med (may need to try another stimulant); or 3) it's the wrong diagnosis. I'm wondering how extensive an evaluation your son went through to be diagnosed with ADHD. Was it his pediatrician who diagnosed him? Did he receive any cognitive or psychological testing? The diagnosis of ADHD should not be made quickly or without any testing. It takes a professional like a neuropsychologist to evaluate neurological disorders like ADHD. Furthermore, with some of the behaviors you're describing, you may be looking at something beyond ADHD.
he was tested fully, these problems just didnt arise a month ago, he has had the signs from the age of 2yeh same here thanks i am checking that out nowGo to conductdisorders.com and you can read about both of these. You may need to increase your dose or change meds. We are on our third med, one was horrible, another caused OCD type side affects, and we are not sure if this is it yet. Do not give up, even if it seems like there is no answer. Sometimes the answer is hard to find. Diets work great for some, and do nothing for others. I am all for whatever works.
whats high level autism?
whats beyond adhd? There are ADHD mimickers, such as bipolar disorder and high-functioning autism. yes dex is the first one but i have tried all the diets and crap like thatmy son is 3 and is exactly like your son.on top of adhd they also think he could be in the autistic spectrum.after some tests some dotors say he is not, others say he is.in great britain they will not give retilin until he is 5 or 6.but he has menatolin which help him sleep.
