My son was prescribed 25 MG Zoloft and a week into it we are looking at the child from he**!!!! His behavior is 110% worse than before and he refuses to listen at all is having behavior problems at home and on the bus, the lying is increasing and stealing and sneaking things is worse now. More dramatic about everything like not being able to play his gameboy. UGH!!!! I was hoping that it wuld help but I think that it may have made things worse. We are to dscontinue the Zoloft and see if the behaviors subside back to what he was before. I was concerened over his anger and blatant refusal to listen sometimes before and they psychiatrist thought depression was there along with his ADHD... so that is why they added Zoloft. This child is so out there I am so stressed that I am breaking out in hives over this.... Does anyone know if Benadryl pills will help stress hives or not?
Kristy, I do know about Zoloft and paradoxical reactions. Last October my 12-year-old son had a manic reaction after taking 25 mg Zoloft for 3.5 weeks. In spite of stopping Zoloft, he raged nightly until we found a new child psychiatrist to evaluate him. The new pdoc, who dxed bipolar disorder, started him on the mood stabilizer Depakote, and he finally settled down after 6 weeks. My son is still very depressed so the pdoc recently added another mood stabilizer, Lamictal, to the med mix.
I'm glad your pdoc stopped the Zoloft. I am not a doctor, but have been through this scenario with two children (my daughter had a manic reaction to Paxil last summer), and will offer you this advice: Do NOT under any circumstances let a doctor prescribe any other med for your son except a mood stabilizer worked up to a therapeutic dose, particularly if he does not settle down on his own. Stimulants and other antidepressants could very well make him worse.
Benadryl should help your hives. Please post again if you have further questions.
