I believe that you are experiencing some side effects of methylphenidate - not just related to concerta. I had the same ones, they went away for me. Every once in a while, the word reading on the white background still affects me, but only when I havent taken it for a couple of days.
Continue to talk to your dr. if they bother you. other stimulants like caffiene can make it worse, so I would back off of that if you drink any sodas or coffee until your body adjusts.
I have had no experience with the disoriented feeling so I couldnt tell you if that is normal or something to be concerned about. Once again continue to stay in touch with the DR. they are the experts... I can only share my experience and not offer any kind of medical advice.. just like anyone else on this board.
In my case it actually took a couple of months for ALL symptoms to go away. ( some of them went away after the first 2 weeks.) Usually now, I don't know that i"ve taken anything. I just know that somehow my work gets done and I have a sense of internal motivation that I had not experienced before going on meds.
if these things continue for you or are bothersome, I would be even more assertive and ask for an adjustment down of dosage or medicine change. But that is just me.
Oh yeah, BTW, I asked my doc about foods and methylphenidate. According to him, the only foods that affect the long acting forms of this drug are high carb meals.. It is his opinion that it increases the sedative effect for us ADDers.
I know some my disagree.. but I think hes correct in that one ;)

Looking to see who is on Concerta and what side effects you experienced.
I am an athlete and notice that sometimes I am very warm (flushed in the face), that reading words (small) on white background is hard (birght light too) and sometimes a feeling of disoriented (fogginess like you just got hit the head).
But my wife says I am more relaxed and the doctor says most symptoms go away.
Im wondering what foods can cause this? Alcohol? And what about fluids? I am a triathlete.
Curous and looking for answers :)
All of my symptoms went away after a couple of months. The worst for me was appetite. I lost about 30 lbs in 3 months on Concerta. Also, my hands and feet are always cold. That still remains the same but I live in Texas so that may come in handy when it is 190 degrees out. I still get disoriented every now and then but just for a few seconds and then i snap right out of it. My short term memory is horrible now. Makes for an interesting day.I agree, all the a.d.d./a.d.h.d. medication's do that to you, and it does take a couple month's to get used to , but the higher the dose of the medication, the more chances that it stick's with you. I am on adderol and i have the same thing, but my younger brother was on concerta and he is in track and field at his high school, wich takes a lot of physical exertion. And he had to switch to adderol, wich in turn only makes his palm's sweaty when he is very physicaly active, but the higher the dose the more chances that you will have to just deal with that or not take the medication, on concerta/adderol/dexidrene-you have to pay attention to what your body is telling you,and dont ignore it, to many people do and they end up paying- big time.
