I think I would give it a few more weeks before making another change.  Strattera can take as much as 8 weeks to fully kick in.  Once you make a change, I think I would add a low dose of a stimulant.  I'm hearing this combo of Strattera plus low-dose stimulant is being used more and more frequently.  I don't think I would recommend Wellbutrin because it's also an SNRI antidepressant, and our pdoc said it wasn't that great for attention issues. These drugs have dangerous effects and are nothing but a bandaid for the person. Americas schools are flowed in trying to force a circle learner in to square learner in lots of these cases. I took med like this and yes it slowed me down but I still ended up in Private education which learned more than these systems taught. We all here with disability kids needs to fight for the systems to change not our kids. No school has any right to suggest medication  they are not a MD.  There are many disorders that have these same symptoms. These kids just need to be taught what isn't happening naturally for them. This is just my opinion. RN

My son is in reg ed.  He gets in trouble at school mainly at recess, and unstructured times.  The other day, a boy tried to pick up a ball that had rolled away from him, so he thought the boy was taking it and tackled him.   The school has never reccomended medication, but I do seek out how he is doing.

Smallmom, Thankyou.  That is just what I was thinking.  the Strat has much fewer side effects than the stims we have tried.

My son was given Ritalin for the first time on Sunday.  He talked four eight hours straight non-stop.

We are trying to go natural after that.   However, I spoke with a Pharm Rep who sells Strattera.  It takes about six weeks to kick in fully.

My son has been on Adderall xr (moody, angry, sensitive, generally not good),Focalin xr(good but OCD like side effects), and now strattera.  The Strat is doing ok, but does not seem to control the hyperness as well as stims.  No moodiness, a little stomach upset, but he gets in trouble in school more often while on it.   He has been taking it almost a month.  He is 8.  Pdoc says if we want to change things he would reccomend 1 of 3 things.  No strat and back to stim, strat and stim, or strat and wellbutrin.  Any thoughts?  I do not think I want to go back to only stim.   thanks
