I have been away awhile but my question could an anxiety or phobia be a side effect? My daughter began Ritalin LA10 MG back in November and 3 weeks ago had it increased to 20 MG due to lost effectiveness. We have noticed awsome improvement she is more alert when playing with other kids and now has 2 friends at school. I have noticed going grocery shopping she stays by my side instead of wandering, reaching, grabbing, etc.
The Med change occured about 2-3 weeks ago and I have also noticed she has gotten more shy. Last week there was a spider in our bathroom and she has been freaky since over all bugs. She has been clingy to me all weekend, refused to play outdoors due to bugs, and has been constantly looking at our ceiling and walls. Is this a side effect? Phobia? or anxiety? I plan to call her psychologist tommorow.
Hi Jill, stimulants can increase anxiety. You absolutely need to report these symptoms to the pdoc. The dose may need to be lowered, or you may need to switch to another med altogether. Sorry you're struggling. Let us know what happens.I checked with her doctor today and I was told it was not a side effect but like you said it can increase syptoms. she appears to be doing better today and we had a long talk about bugs. I had to keep her home from school today due to she had a low grade fever this morning so I wil see what happens in the morning. Thanks.
