I really got a good laugh when I read... Good Heavens !!......
But...We have an appointment at Childrens Hospital with a Neuropsych in June...They did not have anything sooner. I will ask the Psichatrist that we are seeing about Sttratera... He wanted to try Prozac...with the metadate too. I was very nervous about that and then he said that we could start with the Tenex, he already knows about this obsession my DS has with winning and being first, that is pretty much the only thing that triggers his Rages. I try to avoid as much as I can any kind of videogame or Computer or games with his brother, the thing that worries me is that I am not allways with him , he is going to start kindergarten in the Fall and I am scare.... He is now in a special progran Pre-k with the school district for kids with special needs. but that is going to be over soon and he will start in regular class. Right now the Ratio is 4:1... Later it will be probably 12:1
Another thing...DS can not swallow..We tried Concerta for 2 days, I thought I had the swallowing down, but I was wrong. I was giving him the pill in applesauce and he did not notice after that forget it he felt it and it was over ..But the Concerta 36 worked very well and all day !!... But again..those 2 days nothing happened to trigger the rages. So I do not know if the concerta will work for that..I don't think so...
What do you think about the Prozac ? I have read bad experiences with other children.
I have post in the past about my DS, so far diagnosed ADHD by 2 Psychiatrics,he currently takes Tenex 1mg. at night and 1/4 in the AM. We tried 1/2 in the AM too and he got very emotional, cry for everything, with only 1/4 he seems ok. We only started the Tenex 2 weeks ago. He also takes 20mg once a day of Metadate CD. Helps with hyperness.
Lately he is getting worse when he does not win either a videogame or a game with his brother. He always want to be first. and if he does not...MY GOSH !!! Its like he can really hurt someone. He has not YET... I am pretty much there all the time with him and his brother when they are playing. He gets FURIOUS...he turns purple and hits the table or whatever is near him.... He never gets this mad except when this happens.... I am allways trying to avoid games or computer games or videogames because I know what would happen if he looses. The Doctor gave him the Tenex to help with that but so far nothing has change. He explotes big time...I am really afraid he is going to send some kid to the emergency room if they are out there by themselves maybe in the playground at school. I Do not what else to do since the Meds so far have not help with that part of his issues. He is 5 yrs old. his brother is 3.
Please any suggestion will be appreciated.
We have tried with no success...Focalin,Adderall,clonidine,Ritalin..the only one that seems to work the best calming him down some is the Metadate Cd.
What sort of reaction has he had to stimulants so far? Do they make him more aggressive? Any mood disorders on the family tree on either side? Substance abuse? OlderMom38816.7130671296
The reaction he has had on stimulants are only becoming sensible and crying for anything but not in an aggresive way this happen only on Adderall but the others that we tried they simply did not do much on his hyperness except the Ritalin La (which did not last long in his system) only about 5 hrs so we switch to Metadate CD and that seems to work a little more about 6-7hrs. But it only works with his hyperness, which to me that is a plus because he can drive anyone crazy, on the other side like I said he gets into this Rage but ONLY when he looses on a game or on being first to finish his drink than his brother or to go upstairs, silly things like this... I really do not know how to stop this. We have tried a lot of different approches but nothing seems to work. The thing that amazes me is that he gets in to this rage and 10 minutes later he is as loving as allways. He is very sweet and sensitive child, except when this happens (losing).
There is absolutely no substance abuse... We are as healthy as you can get.
And on the family history the only thing I know is that my brother in law is weird... I think he has some form of Autism for what I have learned here in the Internet, he has allways lived with the parents..he is like 50 yrs old. He always depends on the mom to do everything even he asks her what clothes he should wear and he gets mad if we don't go to the restaurant he wants to go. Things like that. THey live in Conneticut and we live in Texas so I dont get to be around this family much. But my husband says that he is a normal guy maybe with some issues but nothing big. (They live in denial.. I think)
Anyways other than that, my husband is very hyper, but very succesful in his career...CEO of a company. He is a workaholic !
I am going crazy !! I have my 2 boys and my husband is on the go all the time with his job. I am 33 and he is 46, I am his 3rd wife...He has no previous kids and somethings I wonder why ...maybe they saw things in him and his family that I didn't.. I don't know anymore... All I want is to help my children to have a healthy and happy life and I get to tired and fustrated with all of this.
Sorry about this long message...Now you know almost all my life history
Thank you Older mom for your input. I really do not know much about meds and much about all this disorders....I am in the learning process...but when the Doc. mention Prozac I was taken back and inmediately said NO...even thought I really don't know much about it..It was just a feeling... I am trying the Tenex this is the 10th day..but I really don't have high hopes for it. We will see.. I choose that one because It seems like it does not have too many side effects.
Thank you again, also...we have a 3 yrd old boy and he also has issues that are in the spectrum..but since he still young and without any major problems I am just leaving it alone. He also obsseses about cartoons. When he started to talked about 6 months ago his first words were imitating Sponge Bob...I was happy anyways...He talks alot more now...but like your son..he imitates cartoons.. Time wil tell.
I don't worry as much like in the beginning.. I am taking things as they come..because I was about to have a break down about a year ago.
Thanks
What is it with the spectrum kids and Sponge Bob and Ed, Edd and Eddy? LOL. My son is twelve, but still loves these shows and recites them...lol. I wouldn't worry about the spectrum and meds. There are no meds for autism. The kids improve with proper interventions in the community and school. My son isn't on any meds. He was first misdiagnosed with ADHD/ODD, then bipolar...that's why I warn others to be careful. The disorders mimic each other and professionals mess up all the time. *I* suspected autism spectrum disorder, but I kept being told "he's too friendly" "he outgrew his autism" (rolling eyes), "he has bipolar" (it was not true--the kid has no moodswings and doesn't rage), etc. As parents we need to be careful and I feel it's better to be safe than sorry regarding meds, unless the child is acting in a dangerous way. My son was on so many meds and he didn't need them. I wish you like. Keep us informed. I know it takes a while to get in to see a NeuroPsych. It took us three months. (((Hugs)))Michel72, as far as video games, my son was the same way. He would start crying and carrying on if he was losing. I have since then bought him video games that are not fighting games, but are simulation games. Harvest Moon (all three - the latest is VERY addicting), Sims, or one that will be coming out in Dec. The Movies where you can create you're basically the director. I have also worked with him and telling him that if a game upsets you so much, you need to shut it off and play something else. It seems to have worked because he does exactly that now.
