No more caffeine | ADHD Information
my geanson wants to play basketball he will be 8 in september the abilify seems to be working pretty good it is 5mg at first he said he didnt feel like doing anyting though he seemed like he was deppressed so we put him back on 21/2 mg dose sports help him come out of hisself now that he is on the meds he seems so mellow to me.
My son will be 10 in June, and it seems like he finally found a sport that he can participate well in -- and it's basketball, too ! He's not so coordinated (or focused) for soccer, or baseball, etc., but does great at basketball.
He's on 10 mg Ritalin in AM, then 5 mg booster at lunchtime at school. Sometimes another 5 mg after school if there is a hard project, etc. that we need to spend alot of time on. What a world of difference !
hi i am new and i could use some support''' i am a grandmother rising my grandson i am just trying medicne to for him and it seems to be workingHi bambam. how old is your grandson? my boy is going to be 6 in july.
we tried every behavior mod there was, and turned to homeopathic solutions sometime in the late fall.
My son really responded to the caffeine therapy, but it was a short lived solution.
Im not sorry I did it though, it gave us really good ground work to build on.
He started on 5 mg ritalin q4h today and seems to be doing well.
he seemed just a little grumpy today, but that could be lack of sleep too, he didnt sleep well last night.
today will proove to be a very busy day for him - new medicine, his
neice is coming over to spend the night tonight, he's got track
practice, and sign ups for swimming class, and then tomorrow he's got a
dr apt in the am.
Well folks...Its official, Jason is off the caffeine pills.
after about a month, we had increased his dosage to about 600 mg and
that stopped being as effective as it was initially. I was
unwilling to continue to increase the dose, but have in the interim
found a doctor I really trust and believe in.
today the whole family went to talk to her and we came away with a Rx for ritalin.
one good thing was that because I had done the caffeine therapy with
melatonin for sleep, we could discuss my son's behavioral issues and
rebound issues, and becuase of how well the Caffeine worked for him we
could better decide which class of medication to put him on.
we thoroughly discussed the black lable warnings for the adhd drugs,
and this doctor did a complete physical on my son before she ever
picked up a pen to write him a rx.
Im a little sad that we had to turn to real medicines and couldnt deal
with it just with some simple solution or behavior modification...but
here we are.
Im glad that I found this group - with one exception and I think we all
know what Im talking about - and I look forward to helping and being
here to help other parents who just dont know what to do.
thanks everyone!!
Best wishes for your son , Jasonsmom. I know what a hard decision you
have gone through, because I was TOTALLY anti-med before I researched
and knew for us it was time to try them.
Remember it may work right away or things may have to be tweaked for a while. Hang in there!
